BANDA, MaryLou of
Saginaw, Michigan, passed on Saturday, July 3, 2010, at her home, surrounded by
her family. She was 66 years old. Mary Lou Banda was born September 21, 1943,
in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, to the late Andrea (Avalos) and Juan E. Banda. MaryLou was a graduate of St. Joseph High School in
Saginaw. She then furthered her education at Saginaw Valley State University,
receiving her Bachelor Degree and working toward her Masters. Throughout MaryLous career with the Saginaw Board of Education, she was
a librarian, teacher for the Bilingual Program in Saginaw and a second-grade
teacher at Chester Miller Elementary School. She kept her faith strong by her
active participation and membership at St. Casmir Catholic Church as a Lay
Minister and Reader and was a parishioner at St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Las Damas de Guadalupe. She enriched the Saginaw Community by her membership with the Teachers Association, holding many offices with the PTA, Athletic Association at the Catholic
Schools in Saginaw, lunch programs and Bingo. MaryLou also enjoyed her membership with the Xochiquetzal – The Mexican Dance Association and served as the secretary for Sister Cities and L.U.L.A.C. MaryLou will be greatly missed by her family and all of the lives that she has touched throughout the years.
She is survived by her son, John Thomas Tom Banda and his fiance, Catherine Majewski; two daughters: Alicia Banda and her fianc, Barry L. Hunt and Andrea G. Banda; three grandchildren: Rafael T. Banda, Andres M. Banda and Mya Banda; great grandson, Alexavier Banda; brother, Guadalupe Lupe (Eva) Banda and their family; sister-in-law, Linda Banda; a special cousin, Sylvia Banda of Los Freinos, TX; nieces: Michelle and Lisa Banda and their families; a lifelong friend, sister, and comardr, Lucia G. Trevino. MaryLou will also be missed by many dear friends and extended family from where she was born in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. MaryLou was preceded in death her brothers: Margarito (Mark) Banda, Juan T. Banda and Juanito Banda.
FUNERAL: A funeral liturgy for MaryLou will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 9, 2010, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 910 N. Sixth St., Saginaw. Rev. Fr. Joseph A. Schabel will officiate with interment to follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
VISITATION: Friends may call at the church on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.
