ELLIS,
George A., M.D. of
Saginaw, Michigan. It is with saddened hearts that we announce that George
Arthur Ellis, M.D. passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, June 16, 2010
at age 86. Beloved
husband of Elizabeth ÒBettyÓ of 51 years. Loving
father of Declan of Freeland, Ronan (Terese) of
Seattle, Aideen (Lance Hamilton) of Toronto; and
loving dad to Amanda of Chicago and Lisa of Saginaw. He is predeceased by his daughter,
Patricia; son, Brendan; brother, Brendan; and parents, Arthur and Mabel. Cherished Grandfather of Katrina and
Brendan Ellis, Liam and Katherine Hamilton, and Christine, Katherine and Ashley
Ellis. Great Grandfather to
Nicholas Ellis Green. He also
leaves behind his sisters: Maeve Taylor and Joan Scarry;
brothers- in-law: Paul and Kevin Leahy; and sisters-in-law: Mary Leahy and
Brenda Breen all residing in Ireland.
He will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews in
Ireland and the US.
George was a
dedicated family doctor practicing in Shields for over 25 years as well as
serving as Medical Director in the Substance Abuse Program at Saginaw Community
Hospital for 15 years. He was a member of the Saginaw Medical Society, the AMA
and the Saginaw Country Club for many years.
George was also
a Joycean scholar and regularly attended James Joyce
seminars in Dublin including attending Bloomsday
festivities, which date is celebrated yearly on June 16, coincidentally the
date of his passing. He was a true intellect, a man of ideas who lived in his
world of books and he reflected a more gracious and formal era. Besides his
books, he took great joy in Irish music, theater and dance.
George will be
remembered for bringing joy and laughter to his many dear friends and
family. He will be missed at
weddings and other celebrations where he was known for his dancing. He will be
remembered fondly to all those he touched in life including: family, friends and his many patients
he helped throughout the years.
The family would
like to extend sincere thanks and appreciation to his doctors, nurses and
Hospice of Hope.

FUNERAL: GeorgeÕs Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June
18, 2010 at St. Stephen Catholic Church, 1310 Malzahn.
Rev. Fr. Randy Kelly will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Andrew
Cemetery.
VISITATION:
Friends are welcome to visit with the family at Deisler
Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) on
Thursday, June 17, 2010 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Friday,
from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. A Vigil Service will take place at 7:00
p.m., Thursday evening, at the funeral home under the direction of Pastoral
Associate, Audrey Wilson.
