Our great husband, step-father, papa, brother and dear friend passed away peacefully on Friday, March 1, 2024 surrounded by his wife and family at Saginaw Senior Care and Rehab. He was 73 years old. Zenon Edward Kowalewski was born on December 23, 1950 in Germany to the late Janina “Janet” (Ludwiczak) and Franciszek “Frank” Kowalewski. When he was infant, his parents traveled by boat, where he celebrated his 1st birthday, and immigrated into the United States. As a young boy his family moved to Saginaw, attending St. Josaphat’s grade school and then graduating from Carrollton High School in 1969. After high school, Ed started working for General Motors, until his retirement 30 years later. In retirement Ed loved to golf, driving bus, and refereeing basketball and baseball. He married Mary (Deeg) Vescio on December 1, 2000. He was a faithful member St. John Paul II Parish – St. Josaphat Catholic Church and St. Dominic Parish – St. Stephen Catholic Church.

Ed is survived by his wife, Mary; his step-son, Nicholas T. (Nicole) Vescio; grandson, Collin Vescio; siblings: Matthew Kowalewski, Edith Kowalewski and her very special friend, Beth Mueller, John (Debbie) Kowalewski and Steve (Alicia) Kowalewski; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Nancy (David Lyman) Parker and Karen (Mike) Buse; God-son, Eric (Vicki) Kowalewski; many nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends, especially John and Sue Oczepek and Ralph and Connie Gnotek.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law, Robin Kowalewski; and his nephew, Steven Kyle Kowalewski.

Ed’s family would like to extend a huge thank you to their nephew, Tom Howard, for his help! And a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Saginaw Senior Care and Compassus Hospice for their wonderful care and support that was provided to Ed and his family.

FUNERAL: In keeping with Ed’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Funeral Liturgy will take place 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 21, 2024 at St. John Paul II Parish-St. Josaphat Catholic Church, 469 Shattuck Road in Carrollton. Rev. Fr. Amal Madanu will officiate. Private inurnment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery

VISITATION: Family and friends are welcome to gather at the church on Thursday, March 21, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.

MEMORIALS: Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider a donation to the Saginaw Community Foundation c/o Steven Kyle Kowalewski Foundation, St. John Paul II – Christ Mission Appeal or Tunnel to Towers.
