Spaulding Twp., Michigan

Loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2024 at his residence. He was 95 years old. Edward Jack Brettrager was born on April 20, 1928 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Bechtel) Brettrager. He married Lucile Gushen on January 17, 1948 in Saginaw, Michigan at Holy Family Catholic Church. They celebrated 76 years together. Ed owned and operated Spaulding Machine and Spaulding MFG Inc. He was a member of the Michigan Farm Bureau and Holy Family Catholic Church for many years.

Ed will be remembered as a hard worker. He loved farming and always said that he enjoyed watching the corn grow. But, what Ed really loved most was being with his family.

Surviving is his wife, Lucile Brettrager; children, Karen (Partner Rod Green) Moore, Gary (Dawn) Brettrager, of Palmer, Alaska, and Linda (Robert) Kwapis; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Ed was preceded in death by his siblings, Joseph Brettrager, Elizabeth Fortier, Theresa Stanulis, Henry Brettrager, Eleanor Hart, Norman Brettrager, and Donald Brettrager.

FUNERAL SERVICE: A Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 9, 2024 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 1525 S. Washington Ave., Saginaw, MI 48601. Rev. Fr. Robert Byrne will officiate. A committal service will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Saginaw.

VISITATION: Family and friends will gather at Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) on Friday, March 8, 2023 from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A Vigil Service will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Visitation will continue at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.

MEMORIALS: Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Holy Family Catholic Church, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or a charity of your choice.
