Paul and Irma's loving acceptance of strangers (Valerio and I) has set a great example for me. Deepest sympathy for your loss. Amazing gratitude for all they have given.

Thank you Dad for your Christian example and guidance through life. I could not have asked for a better Dad. I have so many great memories of how I grew up, such great and unique experiences. I think we really took advantage of everything that the Upper Peninsula had to offer a family. I remember the bicycle rides, fast corners on the go-cart that you made, riding motorcycles and snowmobiles on the trails through the woods, the hot chocolate as the only thing that could keep you warm at the I-500 snowmobile race, boating on Lake Superior in the folbot that you built from a kit, fishing and hunting (I never got anything), racing slot cars under the house in the crawlspace after going down through the trap door, having fish aquariums, hamsters, and watching you make a splint for an injured owl's wing and keeping him until he could fly again, and so many other things. The talks and laughs that went along with all of these things left an imprint on me. I miss you and I'll miss our conversations and the chance to ask your opinion on things. But I think you gave me the best and only advice that really matters, advice that applies to all of my future questions, when you lifted your hand and pointed to heaven as you went to be with Jesus. Thank you.

These things come to mind when remembering "Dad": - His delight in his grandchildren - His steadfast faithfulness to his wife and family - Hearing stories of his growing up days (having Scarlet Fever and being quarantined in his room with the only working radio in the house; his Algebra teacher) - His clever resourcefulness to solve practical problems, a skill which he passed on to his son - He would eat most anything but definitely not raspberries! - Sitting around various tables together at family gatherings - My "birthday buddy" - His faith being summed up in this verse: The Lord delights in those who fear him, who put their hope in his unfailing love. (Psalm 147:11)
