Loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Joan Ruth Winters, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at Faith Hospice at Trillium Woods in Byron Center, Michigan. She was 88 years old.
Joan was born on December 31, 1936, in Saginaw, Michigan, to Floyd and Velma (Ursuy) Brady. She married Gerald “Jerry” Winters Sr. on April 30, 1955, and they shared a beautiful life together until his passing. Joan was a dedicated Avon Representative for many years before retiring, and she was a faithful member of Bridgeport Community Church in Bridgeport where she was a member of the Women in Christ group.
Joan had many passions that brought joy to her life, including taking trips to the casino, playing cards, and cooking her famous Sunday dinners. She also had a special place in her heart for her rescue puppy, Rufus, whom she adored. However, above all, Joan cherished spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren who were the true light of her life.
She is survived by her children, Kathy Cullens and Jerry Winters Jr.; her beloved grandchildren, Kent Winters, Stacy Winters, Jenny Winters, and Candace (Andrew) Yeager; one great-grandchild, Cameron Yeager; two sisters-in-law, Janice Whelton and Ginny (Douglas) Nagel; and many nieces and nephews.
Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Winters; her daughter, Lori Winters; her parents, Floyd and Velma Brady; her sisters, Rosemarie (Glenn) Winieckie Whelton and Barbara Treloar; her brother, Bill (Rosie) Brady; and her beloved puppy, Rufus.
MEMORIAL SERVICE: A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, March 14, 2025, at Vanderlaan Funeral Home, 4917 32nd Ave., Hudsonville, MI 49426. Refreshments will follow the service at the funeral home. A celebration of life for family and friends will take place in Saginaw in the spring of 2025. Please check back for updated information.
VISITATION: Family and friends are invited to gather at Vanderlaan Funeral Home on Friday, March 14, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service.
