Mark Raymond Sawatzki

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Mark Raymond Sawatzki on February 17, 2025. He died at home with his wife Kathy by his side following an extended illness. Mark was born on February 7, 1960, in Saginaw, Michigan to Janet Leonette and Leo Marvin Sawatzki. He grew up in Saginaw and Pontiac, Michigan. Mark's grandparents, Grandma and Grandpa Sawatzki taught him the love for fishing at a young age. He fished everywhere he went, from farm ponds, streams and lakes in Michigan to Houston area lakes and the waters of the Gulf Coast of Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi. Mark moved to Houston, Texas in 1978 where he spent the rest of his life with his loving wife Kathy Sawatzki. They both enjoyed playing in dart tournaments over the years. He was a member of the A division of several competitive dart teams in the Houston Darts Association for many years. Mark was elected Sergeant at Arms of the Association. He was responsible for setting up and tearing down the venue for weekend dart tournaments, as well as participating in these events.

Mark retired from the City of Stafford, Texas street department as a foreman in 2011. Prior to that he ran heavy equipment for construction companies. During retirement, Mark found a love for woodworking. He created beautiful furniture, jewelry boxes, intricately designed cutting boards, and many family heirlooms. Mark loved fishing, hunting, woodworking and playing in dart tournaments. He had a genuine appreciation for life, enjoying outdoor activities and cherishing time spent with Kathy, the love of his life.

Mark is survived by his wife Kathy Sawatzki, his mother Janet (née Eurich) Hahn, siblings Leonette Harvey and husband Phil, James Sawatzki, John Sawatzki and wife Jeanne. Stepbrothers: Curt, David, and Roger Hahn. Sister-in-law Fran Bumbalough, brothers- in- law: Warren Dale and wife Joan, Jim Dale and wife Dana. Also, aunts, uncles, cousins, several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and stepmother Leo Marvin and Betty Sawatzki, his stepfather Richard Hahn, and his wife's parents Betty and Warren A. Dale.
