Obituary

Mary “Kitty” Conception McAnany, age 80, of Saginaw, Michigan, passed away on Tuesday, March 11, 2025. Kitty was born on July 17, 1944, to William and Lupe (Jaime) Castillo in Saginaw, Michigan.

Kitty dedicated much of her life to service, volunteering with the Catholic Diocese of Saginaw, Frankenmuth Senior Care, and numerous other community organizations. She was employed for many years as an administrative assistant for Dr. Fields and Dr. Ellis. A devoted hockey mom, Kitty could always be found supporting her son, Gary “Troy” McAnany, and helping where needed. She had a deep love for life, which she enjoyed through playing bingo, capturing memories with photography, and exploring new places through travel. Kitty was a lifelong fan of the Detroit Tigers and cherished the many games she attended.

Kitty is survived by her son, Gary “Troy” McAnany; her brother, David Castillo; her niece, Carolyn Tully; her nephew, Billy Castillo; her very special aunt, Juanita Chantaca; and many dear cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Lupe Castillo.

FUNERAL SERVICE: A Funeral Liturgy for Kitty will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 17, 2025, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 1525 S Washington Ave, Saginaw, Michigan. Rev. Fr. Marc Hopps will officiate.

VISITATION: Visitation will take place on Sunday, March 16, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Road (off State). A Vigil Service will be held at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Visitation will continue at the church on Monday, March 17, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass at 11:00 a.m.

MEMORIALS: Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy may consider a memorial contribution to Holy Family Catholic Church, the Catholic Diocese of Saginaw, or a charity of their choice.

My memories of Kitty are of her always being a kind and caring Mother to Gary. She took the time, asked a lot of questions, and showed true interest in getting to know his friends from our youth and into adulthood. Kitty always liked to know how any sports or school activities were going, you could tell she was on your side and rooting for you to be successful. As young boys/men finding our way, it was great to have such an advocate - we were all lucky to know her. One funny encounter I remember was when I worked at Mosquito Control as a summer job while in school and was spraying neighborhoods at night. While spraying her street, I slowed to a stop in front of her house and really let the spray fly when Kitty appeared at the door. She was holding a glass of water and waving, saying something but of course I couldn't hear anything with my machine running. I know she was just saying hi and wanted to give me a drink. As other neighbors lights came on, I knew it was time to move on, so I waved, laughed and continued my evening work. This is how I choose to remember her...smiling, generous, and happy to see you.
