Obituary

Donna Janetta Ward, of Freeland, Passed away peacefully on Monday, January 27, 2025 at Covenant HealthCare – Cooper. She was 92 years old. Donna J. Avery was born on January 8, 1933 in Chase, Michigan to Archie and Ruby Avery. She married Donald E. “Don” Ward on January 5, 1952. In Detroit, MI. He preceded her in death on March 5, 2017.

She enjoyed crocheting, fishing, and playing euchre. She also enjoyed taking trips to the casino, baking, and watching horse racing. Above all, she loved spending time and playing games with family.

Donna is survived by her daughters: Gail Brown, Laurie (Matt) Jacob and Jennifer (Walter) Wysopal; six grandchildren: Cortney (Josh) Whanger, Brooke Grider, Matthew Jacob, Joshua Jacob, Kaitlyn Wysopal, Morgan (Nicco) Candela; great grandchildren: Beck and Quinn Grider, Carson and Peyton Carroll, Crew and Avery Candela. Donna was preceded in death by her husband, parents and an infant daughter, Amy Ward. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Fern, Clifford, Robert, and Marilyn.

According to Donna's wishes, cremation has taken place, and there are no services planned at this time. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Donna's memory. Private burial will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, Michigan.

Dear Cousins and Family Members, I am so sorry to hear the news of Aunt Donna’s death. I have many childhood memories of Aunt Donna and Uncle Don, when they visited us. I remember her at my dad’s garage parties, laughing, dancing and playing penny ante poker. I know that she was an important part of your lives and she will be missed dearly.

The past two and half years spent listening to Aunt Donna's stories have been enlightening. She always had a good laugh no matter what the story was about. She came back into our lives after Mom's death and filled the hole in our hearts. She will be missed dearly. I will never hear the saying, "Oh my aching back!" without thinking of her.
