Obituary
Okuly, James Edward of Saginaw, MI. Our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather and friend passed away on Thursday, May 9, 2024 at Covenant Healthcare-Cooper. He was 101 years old. Jim was born on December 30, 1922 to the late William and Mary (Karst) Okuly. He married Betty Lou Glass on April 17, 1948; she preceded him in death in 2017.
Jim was a longtime member of St. Dominic's Parish- St. Stephen's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus #4232 and American Legion Post 22. Jim will be remembered as the “Popcorn Guy”; he volunteered a longtime at Covenant Healthcare. He was a big sports fan; especially Michigan State and the Detroit Tigers. Jim also enjoyed playing cards and gardening.
Surviving are his; three sons and one daughter: Steven Andrew (Nina) Okuly, Janet Sue Nixon, John James (Tami) Okuly, and Harold Richard Okuly; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents and wife, Betty Lou, Jim was preceded in death by his 5 brothers and 1 sister.
FUNERAL: A Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at St. Dominic Parish – St. Stephen Catholic Church, 1310 Malzahn. Rev. Fr. Richard John to officiate. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Andrew Cemetery.
VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the church on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.
