Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend passed away on Tuesday evening, June 4, 2024 at Birch Run Fields Assisted Living. He was 79 years old. Frank James Mihalic was born on November 9, 1944 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late Frank G. and Marion (Pillsbury) Mihalic. He married the lovely Joan Buchanan on September 4, 1965 in Richmond, VA; they were married for 46 years. She preceded him in death on May 24, 2012. Frank attended Buena Vista High School, graduating in 1963. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. Frank co-owned and operated J&A Builders then moved on to other endeavors over the years. He was a member of Bridgeport Community Church, the Jaycees, Lions Club, Kosciuszko Club, and American Legion Post 22 for several years.

Frank loved fishing and ice fishing. He also loved watching and attending NASCAR races as well as playing Euchre, hunting, and playing pool. He will be remembered as a social butterfly and making friends wherever he went. What Frank really loved most was spending time with his family, especially his granddaughter.

Surviving are his daughters, M. Michele (Justen) Schian and Melissa J. (Bobby Goist) Durow; former son in-law, Daniel Durow; granddaughter, Victoria Durow, and many nieces and nephews.

Frank was preceded in death by two children, Tammy and James; his brothers, Richard L. Mihalic, Sr., and Ronald E. Mihalic.

Frank's family would like to thank Mike Milnes, Sharon Miller, and Michael (Patti) Schultz for their wonderful friendship over the years.

FUNERAL SERVICE: A Funeral Service will take place at 5:00 p.m. Friday, June 7, 2024 at Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (Off State). Military Honors will be conducted under the auspices of the United States Army and American Legion Post # 22.

VISITATION: Family and friends will gather at Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) on Friday, June 7, 2024 from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service at 5:00 p.m.

We were neighbors of the Buchanan’s for all my life until I married Jimmy in 1966. Joanie & Frank visited them here in Grottoes Va a few times and we enjoyed visiting with Frank during those times. Please know your parents were loved by many. Linda Link

My mom, Alda Libbey lived at the same assisted living facility as Frank. I watched and listened as Frank interacted with the residents and staff. He always seemed upbeat sharing his smile and kind words. When I expressed my sadness of seeing wonderful staff workers moving on...his response was not one of discouragement, but would calmly say, "I look at it as I made a new friend" So even though I'm saddened by Franks passing I can as Frank did...I look at it as a made a new friend. Frank & I Graduated from Buena Vista 1963. He Was Always a Great Friend, Fun to be Around. He Rescued Me One Time Years Ago. I went to a Pig Roast was To meet friends there. I looked around not able to find any of them. There were Harleys Everywhere with a lot of Strangers dressed in black. I had on white pants & light blue gauze Top so I stuck out like a sore thumb. I sat by Myself under a tree still looking for my friends to show up. All of a Sudden Frank Showed Up & Sat Beside Me. I Was Relieved to See a Familiar Face. We Talked for a Good While. Than He Asked If I'd Like Him To Walk Me Back To My Car, Which I Did. I Couldn't Thank Him Enough For Rescuing Me. The Last time I Saw Him was our 50th Class Réunion in Frankenmuth. I Will Miss My Dear Friend & Never Forget His Smile. Kind Heart, & Wonderful Sense of Humor. He is Really One Of The Good Guys. All Heros Don't Wear Capes But Frank Was Not Only a Veteran But Truly a Hero in My Life. God Bless You Dear Friend, You Will Be Missed.
