Obituary

Gloria Hansen, age 81, died on Wednesday, May 15, 2024. She was born on July 25, 1942, to Bill and Dorothy (Anderson) Sherman. She married Herbert Hansen, Jr. on June 20, 1981. After graduating from Saginaw General Hospital School of Nursing in 1962, she worked at St. Luke's Hospital, was the Director of Nursing at Hoyt Nursing Home, and retired from Saginaw Valley State University as Director of Health Services. She was awarded “Woman of the Year” at SVSU in 1998. She was a faithful member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church since 1994. She participated in many home Bible studies, the Easter Walk at Good Shepherd Lutheran for 25 years and was a recipient of the Paul R. Beck Faithful Servant Award in 2012.

She loved spending time with her grandchildren, reading, knitting, and spending time with many good friends. She enjoyed music of all kinds. She especially enjoyed playing hammered dulcimer in the group “Joyful Noise” with the Schimm family. She is survived by her husband, Herb Hansen, and children, Stan (Cassandra) Wallace (Fife Lake, MI); Mark (Sharon) Wallace (Tyrone, GA); Mike (Diana) Wallace (Parma, OH); and Jennifer (Chris) Samson (Saginaw, MI); grandchildren, Jessica (Ethan) Fegan, Christopher Wallace, Sarah Wallace, Jonathan Wallace, Brady Samson and Ashlie Samson; great-grandson, Sterling Samson; brother, , Bill (Kathy) Sherman (North Port, MI); many loving brothers/sisters-in-law, and many special nieces and nephews.

FUNERAL SERVICE: A Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 24, 2024 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 5335 Brockway Road, Saginaw, Michigan 48603. Pastor Paul Biber will officiate. Burial will take place at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Saginaw.

VISITATION: Family and friends will gather at Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) on Thursday, May 23, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.

MEMORIALS: Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, the Saginaw Rescue Misson, and Lutheran Via de Cristo of Central Michigan.

I'm sorry sorry to learn of your loss Herb. I loved listening to you and Gloria play the dulcimer and was honored to play with you on occasion. Gloria always had a smile and kind words. Her faith radiated from within.

I am The lucky one to have worked side by side with both you and Gloria starting during the Tea Party days and beyond! I learned from both of you what it means to stand on principle!
