Bauer, Barbara Lee (Cherry)

Saginaw, Michigan

Our loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and dear friend passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at Ascension St. Mary's Hospital. She was 92 years old. Barbara Lee Cherry was born on December 6, 1931 in Zilwaukee, Michigan to the late John C. and Wilhelmina “Minnie” Louise (Blohm) Cherry. Barb graduated from Michigan Lutheran Seminary. She married Frederick W. Bauer on October 8, 1955 at St. John Lutheran Church in Zilwaukee. They celebrated 68 years of marriage together creating many wonderful memories. Throughout Barb's life she worked for Morley Brothers, Farm Bureau Elevator and Bethlehem Lutheran Church as their secretary. She volunteered at Covenant Hospital, Meals on Wheels and various positions at the church. Baking, cooking, sewing, gardening, knitting, card clubs, and watching her grandchildren's sporting events always brought great joy to her heart.

Barb is survived by her husband, Fred Bauer; children: Fred (Ellen) Bauer, LouAnne (Don) Yurgens and Beth Bauer; grandchildren: Addie Bauer, Marta (Chris) Pethke, Russell (Leah) Bauer, Freddie Bauer, Natalie (Steven) Schaeff, Maureen (Christian) Bialek, Mikaela (Nathan) Green and Derrick Yurgens; great grandchildren: August and Benjamin Bauer, Franklin Schaeff, Hayes Bialek, Baby Pethke and Baby Green are soon to be expected; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law: Elaine Stoick, Delores Bauer, Sue Bauer, Judy and Fred Kern; many nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.

Barb was preceded in death by her parents; infant sister, Evelyn Cherry and her brother, Gerald “Buck” Cherry.

FUNERAL: In keeping with Barb's wishes, cremation has taken place. A funeral service for Barb will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 600 Court Street, Saginaw, MI 48602. Rev. Robert Riggs. Private burial will be at Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery.

VISITATION: Family and friends will gather at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) on Monday, March 11, 2024 from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. There will also be visitation at the church on Tuesday from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m.

Our prayers and thoughts with the Bauer Family. So many memories being neighbors for so many years. Memories from shoveling the conjoined driveways to racking leaves to make leave houses. Mrs. Bauer was so good to us as kids we all enjoyed going over to play in the house or even swim in the pool. Every Christmas she also made rock candy and would send some home with us to have as a treat. She will be so missed. Love Missy and Bob.

She was always, “Grandma Bauer,” to our family though not by blood but through her love! She and Grandpa opened their home to our families throughout the years and included us in moments that became cherished memories. Grandma was a great listener, a wonderful care giver, and a terrific cook. She had a caring and loving heart and we will miss her dearly!
