Beloved sister, aunt, and friend passed away on Tuesday evening December 26, 2023 at Crestwood Village Living and Memory Care in Mount Pleasant. She was 94 years old. Doris Gertrude Smith was born on December 9, 1929 in Plymouth, MI to the late Ward and Viola (Kincade) Smith. She married Laverne “Buck” Rutenbar on September 2, 1950 in Caro, MI at the Nazarene Church: he preceded her in death on October 21, 2020. Doris was employed by Evans Products Company as an Executive Secretary, retiring after many years of service.
Doris loved going for walks. She also enjoyed bowling and crafting. But, what Doris really loved most was spending time with her husband, family, and friends.
Surviving are one sister, Betty (Bob) Dennis of Mayville and one brother, Lynn (Linda) Smith of Mount Pleasant; nephews and nieces: Bonnie (Ray) Gee of Ft. Meyers, FL, Dan (Gloria) Dennis of Mayville, Scott (Laura) Dennis of Deford, Kristine (Alfred) Raby of Mayville, Patrick (Shannon) Smith of Mt. Pleasant, Kerri (Dave) Dunton of Lawrenceville, GA, and Jennifer Smith of Traverse City. Additionally, he leaves many great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Doris was preceded in death by her brother in-laws, Duane (Pat) Rutenbar and Delbert Rutenbar; one niece, Heidi Smith.
FUNERAL SERVICE: A Funeral Service will take place at 12:00 PM, Friday January 5, 2024 at Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State). Pastor Ted McCulloch will officiate. Private burial will take place at West Dayton Cemetery, Mayville.
VISITATION: Family and friends will gather at Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) on Friday, from 11:00 AM until the time of service.
