Reichard, Alvin W. “Al”

Carrollton, Michigan

Our loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and dear friend passed away peacefully on September 2, 2023 at Covenant HealthCare – Harrision surrounded by his family. He was 89 years old. Alvin Wilbert Reichard was born on December 12, 1933 in Saginaw, MI to the late Martin and Ottilie (Bickel) Reichard. He attended Arthur Hill Trade School. Al married Theodora “Teddy” M. Calopisis on July 5, 1958, and she survives him. He worked for Mitts and Merrill in Saginaw as a Draftsmen for over 20 years. Al also worked for General Motors and then Lab Corp. retiring in 1998. He honorably served with the Michigan National Guard and Army Reserve. In his free time, Al could often be found tending to his yard, hunting, fishing, woodworking, watching the Lions and Tigers games or enjoying a bowl of ice cream with family.

Al had a wonderful sense of humor and will be deeply missed by his wife, Theodora “Teddy” M. Reichard; children: Karen (Mike) Rozniak, Laurie Reichard (Dean) Granger, Ron (Cathy) Reichard and Kristina (Mark) Mueller; grandchildren: Christopher (Suzanne) Rozniak, Justin (Sarah) Rozniak, Daniel (Sarah Oberson) Granger, Shannin (Nate) Tausch, Brandon (Corrine Abrego) Reichard, Ryan (Brian Noland) Reichard, Joshua Mueller, Haley Mueller and Nathan Mueller; great grandchildren: Abbie Rozniak, Lucas Rozniak, Oliver Tausch, Evelyn Granger and Jameson Reichard; sister, Shirley Elvin; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jim (Marilyn) Calopisis and Teresa “Kitty” Calopisis; several nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.

Al was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Martin (Ruth) Reichard Jr. and Frederick (Joyce) Reichard; brothers-in-law, Richard Elvin and Paul Calopisis; sisters-in-law: Georgia Steele and Mary Bursick.

SERVICE: In keeping with Al's wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 21, 2023 at First United Methodist Church, 4790 Gratiot Road, Saginaw, MI 48638. Rev. Amy Terhune will officiate. Family and friends will gather at the church on Saturday from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. Private inurnment and committal prayers with be held at Roselawn Memorial Gardens.

MEMORIALS: Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider a donation to First United Methodist Church or a charity of the donor's choice. I will always remember him singing or whistling while he was making lunch for me on weekends. I would be playing in the basement and smell lunch cooking and creep up the stairs to watch him set the table and to listen to him sing. I also will always remember going to 7/11 with him and he would always park in his parking spot (the second one from the door). I remember him buying us slurpees and teaching us to tap the cups on the counter so we could fit more of the slurpee in! His favorite was always Coca-Cola. As I got older it was less 7/11 and more ice cream at 2:30 on Saturdays. I am still shocked to this day that he enjoyed ice cream in winter! He will be missed but we all were lucky enough to share some time with him on this Earth.

My condolences to Teddy and the rest of the Reichard clan. Just one memory that still stands to this day. If it wasn't for Al, when i was younger i would have never ever wore a tie. I always had to visit Al when I needed one tied. I still have them tied to this day.
