Obituary

Stephen Douglas Leffler, 95 of Saginaw, passed away Wednesday morning, June 28, 2023 with his wife Marilyn and niece Julee by his side. He was born February 25, 1928 in Shelbyville, IN, son of the late Ralph and Martha (Watkins) Leffler. Douglas graduated from Wabash College and then Garrett Theological Seminary. On June 20, 1955, he married his dear wife, the former Marilyn Anne Doyscher in Detroit and they just celebrated 68 years together. Douglas served for both Methodist and Presbyterian churches in Wisconsin, Indiana, and Michigan. For 25 years he was chaplain for Veteran's Hospitals in both Butler, PA and Saginaw. Douglas enjoyed his years in Ezekiel Project, bringing peace to civil issues. He was also a lifelong member of the American Legion. His devotion to God, his family, and Veterans will always be remembered.

Douglas is survived by his wife, Marilyn Leffler; sons, George (Diane) Leffler and Mark Leffler; grandchildren, Derek, Joshua, and Alice; one great grandson; and special niece Julee Windmiller. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Louise Volz and many cousins, aunts, and uncles.

FUNERAL: Memorial services will take place at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 30, 2023 from Deisler Funeral Home 2233 Hemmeter Road (off State). Chaplain Lee Austin will officiate.

VISITATION: Friends and family will gather at the funeral home on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

MEMORIALS: Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Countryside Trinity Presbyterian Church, 4690Weiss Street, Saginaw, MI 48603 or Indiana United Methodist Childrens Home, 701 West Camp Street, Lebanon, IN.

Marilyn and family - we were saddened to read in Countryside's newsletter of Doug's death. He was a wonderful Christian man who really walked the walk. We grieve his passing but, as the Bible says, not without hope. We are sure the Lord welcomed him into heaven with the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant; enter into the joy of your Master." Dear Marilyn and family, Because I will be conducting a funeral in Bay City tomorrow at 10:00 I will be unable to join you for Doug’s service, but I want you to be sure you are in my thoughts and prayers. It was an honor and a joy to know and serve with Doug in the Ezekiel Project. He was so passionate in his commitment to work with and serve those dedicated to the building of a community of justice and peace. He was a true minister of the Gospel.
