Janet Sue (Strite) Salinas

Our family said goodbye on Saturday, May 6, 2023 to Janet Sue Salinas. Janet was born in Ann Arbor on February 25, 1950. She graduated from Ann Arbor High School and was a lifelong University of Michigan fan. She moved to Saginaw in 1972 with her husband José Salinas, where they raised their family. She later worked for 20 years at Catholic Federal Credit Union (now known as Jolt Credit Union).

Janet is survived by her husband of over 50 years, José Salinas of Saginaw; son Marcos (Lori) Salinas and their children Antonio (17) and Elena (13) of Bay City; son Miguel (Hope) Salinas and their daughter Lucía (6) of Eagle, CO; daughter Cristina (Brian) Schreur and their son Brody (3) of Holland, MI; sister Joyce (Tom) Zeneberg, brother Jon (Jan Strite), and brother Kent Strite, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her son Mario Salinas (12/12/1998) and her parents; Donald Strite (9/9/2006) and Doris Strite (1/6/2021).

Janet was a loving and supporting mother. She coached several of her children's soccer and basketball teams, was a Den Mother, Webelos (Cub Scouts) leader and Girl Scout leader. She taught many of her children's Sunday school classes, cheered them on throughout all of their childhood events, various sports, and through their adulthood. She was their number one fan and proud of each of their accomplishments, always encouraging them to be their best and happiest.

She especially loved being a grandmother. Playing and reading with each of her grandkids, watching their sporting events, and sewing crafts with and for them were a few of her favorite activities. She loved playing games with her grandkids and spoiling them with popcorn, ice cream, and every other treat possible!

Janet spent her free time sewing, knitting, reading, playing Euchre, gardening, and cooking. She loved spending time with her family and friends, especially in her back yard around her patio and pool.

After retiring, she spent many winters with her husband in Panama City Beach, FL where she made friends from all over the U.S. and world. Her personality was very inviting, kind, generous, caring, and warm. Janet had the natural ability to make friends. Her sense of humor was infectious. She developed and maintained many friends from her childhood and adulthood and cherished each of her friendships. She will be dearly missed by all of her family and friends.

MEMORIAL SERVICE & VISITATION: There will be an open visitation on Monday, May 15th at Chapel Hill Mausoleum and Cemetery in Freeland, MI from 10:00 am -11:00 am and a private ceremony for family and friends at 11:15 am.

MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in honor of Janet Sue Salinas to one of the following: Mario P. Salinas Memorial Endowed Scholarship at Eastern Michigan University at https://www.emich.edu/foundation, National Multiple Sclerosis Society, National Multiple Sclerosis Society, or a charity of your choosing.
