With our sorrow, we announce the death of our beloved mother, grandmother and dear friend Gerda H. Dill, born in Ribnitz-Damgarten, Germany on January 11, 1939, who peacefully passed away in Saginaw, Michigan at Covenant Hospital on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at the age of 83.
She was predeceased by her parents: George and Anna E. Mehltretter, her brothers Roland and Frank Mehltretter and her husband John Ignaz Dill. She is survived by her brother Reiner Mehltretter and her children Rebecka Ann, Steven John and Michael Adam Dill. She has 3 grandchildren: Sara-Celeste Dill, Rosalie and Frank Dill.
Gerda immigrated to Saginaw, Michigan with her family from Nuremberg, Germany in 1954 on the ship Neptunia. As a young girl she enjoyed taking scenic trips with her father and travelling to other cities.
She integrated quickly to her new home on Court Street and attended Arthur Hill High school which she graduated from in 1958. After high school Gerda worked for the Equitable Insurance Company and in 1965 she married John Dill, mason contractor. After raising her three children, Gerda returned to work. She was an Accounts Payable Manager at Seitners in the 1980's and then the Administrator at McBrite Manor. She retired from McBrite Manor in 2005. Gerda was very sociable in the Greater Beneficial Union Hall. Her hobbies included playing cards with friends, cooking and enjoyed spending time with friends and family on the Michigan Lakes. She leaves behind her dearest friends Wilfred and Marianne Rocholl and Gerda Jones. Her brother Reiner and sister-n-law Ursula Mehltretter.
MEMORIAL SERVICE: A Memorial Service will take place at 12:00 p.m. Friday, January 6, 2023 at Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State). Rev. Fr. Robert Byrne will officiate. In keeping with Gerda's wishes, cremation has already taken place.
VISITATION: Family and friends will gather at Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) on Friday, January 6, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 12:00 a.m.
