KICKHAM, LAWRENCE J. “Larry”Saginaw, MichiganOur loving and gentle husband, father, brother, uncle, friend and educator passed away on Thursday, June 9, 2022. He was 73 years old. Lawrence James Kickham was born on June 14, 1948 in Springfield, MA to the late Edward F. and Monica A. (Lynch) Kickham. He graduated from St. Andrew High School, Class of 1966. Larry attended Notre Dame and Northeastern University in Boston earning a Master's Degree in Accounting. He was a professor of Accounting at SVSU for 47 years, until his retirement in 2021. Larry served as the Accounting Department Chair for 24 years, and on numerous boards and committees. Larry was a dedicated educator and received the House Family Award for Teacher Impact in 1997.Larry's warm smile, kindness and his ability to make others feel comfortable will always be remembered by those who knew him. He married Lisa A. Meyer on May 10, 1986 at Resurrection Lutheran Church, Saginaw. Together they had two daughters Laura and Molly. They were his world. He especially enjoyed sharing his love of skiing with them. The memories of their family ski trips will live with them forever. Two words his daughters always heard, especially when dealing with others is “Be sweet”. Meaning, treat others as you would want to be treated.Larry will be deeply missed by his wife, Lisa; daughters: Laura (Wm. Looby) Kickham and Molly (Tyler Chlystek) Kickham; brothers and sisters: Edward F. Kickham, Mary Kickham-Samy, Kathy (Bob Wainwright) Kickham, Thomas (June) Kickham and Barbara (Garen) Sahagian.Larry was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Wm. Kickham, Robert Kickham; and an infant sister, Barbara Kickham.The family would like to extend their personal thanks to the Nurses at Covenant Hospital and HealthSource for their kindness and care to our beloved Lar.VISITATION: Family and friends will gather at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) on Thursday, June 16, 2022 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Friday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.SERVICE: A celebration of life service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Friday, June 17, 2022 at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State). Pastoral Associate Sharon Wahl will officiate. I was a student of Larry's at SVSC in the eighties and enjoyed him so much. He was so kind, educated, intelligent and fun and for a young college student, it was so inspiring to be taught by someone so close to my age! - I have run into him over the years, and always received the same smile and interest from him. What a nice man and gentleman.
I send my sincere sympathy to Larry's entire family, his colleagues and students. You touched so many Larry, Rest in peace.

I would like to express my condolences to Lisa and the entire Kickham family at this time. Larry became a good friend of mine when I worked for the Saginaw Choral Society and Larry was on the board of directors and assisted me in the financial aspects of the business. Larry was always generous with his time and offered many suggestions that helped fine tune the Choral Society’s financial process.

I was deeply saddened to hear of Larry's passing.Though I had not seen him much since high school, he was often in my thoughts, especially around his birthday -- today, Flag Day.
Larry was a great friend while we were in grade school and high school. Thinking back on those times, I recall that he not only had a way of making all feel comfortable, he also had a way of making just about everyone feel a bit special. His passing brings up lots of wonderful memories and stories of his quick wit and great sense of humor and things like playing softball doubleheaders in Diendorfer Woods (a hit into the maple tree in the middle of left field was an automatic double!), sharing thoughts about grade school crushes, our unforgettable city league basketball team -- The Awes, and study hall senior year when all at our table gave Sister Florentine fits "doing homework", though "doing laughwork" was much more like it. Those were memorable times and I am thankful that Larry was a part of them.
My heartfelt condolences go out to Larry's family and friends. Please accept my deepest and warmest sympathy.

To Professor Kickham’s family, friends, and associates:
I’m deeply saddened to hear of our loss of a wonderful man. Although I didn’t stay in touch with Larry after graduating from SVSU in 1998, I actually called the University office to see if I could contact him a few months ago. They kindly explained that he’d retired, so I decided not to be a pest and didn’t pursue making further communication. Needless to say, he is one of the top on my list of favorite professors of all time, and I’ve had many in my educational journey. I wish you all sympathy and peace in the knowledge that Larry was indeed a gentle and kind man, and a superb educator. Now he’s in heaven and in the presence of Jesus and God Almighty, perhaps demonstrating some accounting tricks. I wish you all God’s blessings, comfort, and confidence as you move forward in your lives. I think that’s what Larry would want too. Be sweet!
