Gerald “Jerry” J. Talbot age 88, of Saginaw, Michigan passed away peacefully on Monday, May 9, 2022 at home surrounded by his family. Gerald was born February 26, 1934 in Utica, New York, the son of the late George and Minnie (Laveck) Talbot. Gerald was united in marriage to Joan Brennan on June 29, 1957; she preceded him in death on August 15, 2021.Jerry attended Gilmore Academy, Gatesville, Ohio and graduated in 1952. He attended the University of Detroit studying Business Administration. He received his Junior Accounting Certificate from Northeastern School of Commerce, Bay City Michigan. He proudly served two years in the United States Army, in Dugway, Utah. Jerry worked at Wickes Lumber as a Tax Accountant for 20 years and was part owner of the State Lanes, Bay Lanes and Stardust Bowling Alleys.Over the years Jerry was active with the United Way, St. Joseph Orphanage, Knights of Columbus, Serra Club and on the board of Ascension St. Mary's Foundation and Fields Neuroscience Institute. A devoted husband, father and grandfather; he is survived by a daughter; Mary Jo (Steve) Scofes, granddaughters; Morgan and McKenzie, daughter; Molly Talbot and son Tony Talbot (Mark Duffy). Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, wife and son-in-law; James Traynor.FUNERAL: Funeral Liturgy will take place at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, May 14, 2022 from St. Dominic Catholic Church, St. Stephen Parish, 1310 Malzahn St. Saginaw, MI 48602 with Rev. My father, Melvin Nielson and Jerry were business associates and friends. So much so that since we lived on Lake Margrethe in Grayling and Jerry had a nice speed boat, my dad offered that he could moor his boat at our dock. Jerry said fine and of course we could use his boat whenever to return the favor.
At the time I was dating a beauty queen and had the idea that it would be fun to spend the day out on the water. We took Jerry's boat and anchored across the lake from Danish Landing by the sand hill. When it came time to head in I decided to impress my date so I powered up the boat to full throttle to speed home. Suddenly out of the corner of my eye I saw something shooting up out of the water to my right. Apparently I had been so distracted by her beauty that I had forgotten to pull up the anchor! It rose like a ballistic missile and when it reached the end of the anchor rope, way overhead, it started coming down at us. Yelling "DUCK" was the only thing I could think of to do. The flying anchor came slamming down and stuck into the hull of Jerry's boat!
Thankfully no one was hurt (my ego was bruised) but my date was so worried that we were going to get into big trouble. I did have to tolerate all the kidding from both my dad and from Jerry, who was actually very nice about the whole thing.
And the end of the story? Believe it or not, my date agreed to marry me!!!

I'm an old associate from days at Wickes Lumber. I remember Jerry from our days. I remember together making at least one business trip with him. Wish I had investigated sooner.
