A great man that will be missed by many. A true light of God’s love that made the lives of those around him better. We share in the sadness of losing such a sweet and kind man. We pray for God’s peace and love to surround his family during this most difficult time.

It was an honor to have served alongside Rod at the center in Chinhoyi Zimbabwe. His sense of humor and integrity were legendary. My prayers and deepest sympathies to his many family and friends.

I am devastated to hear Rod is no longer with us on the side of heaven, though I have no doubt he is the happiest he’s ever been. One reason among many I personally am saddened by his departure is because of his genuine gift of making people feel they were special to him. When you were with Rod you knew you were loved and valued. You could almost feel like you were the only person that mattered, And the truth is, at that moment that probably was the case because he gave his full attention to you. He made me feel special, he made my husband feel special, he made our dad feel special, and no doubt he made thousands feel special. He looked you in the eyes & you felt God’s love wash over you. And his laugh was infectious. Rod was a servant & friend of God AND men. He helped our dad with tasks around the house, & he encouraged us in word and deed as missionaries. I remember one time when we were flying back from Mozambique to Saginaw and needed to drive downstate to a conference that day. Since our car had been sitting around in a parking lot through a Michigan winter and had not been started for many many months, Rod took the time to not only make sure It’s battery was charged by the time we arrived, but he also took the time to put air in the tires as he noticed they were low. Rod was frequently wanting to ‘promote’ us as missionaries & introduce us to his pastors & friends as he knew we were busy doing ministry & could use more prayer & support. His initiative in trying to look out for us breathed life into our spirits & put wind in our sails. In this & so many other ways too numerous to mention, Rod was an incorrigible encourager who put life into our bones This summer Rod attended our dad’s memorial service and afterwords made a point to find my husband and I to let us know that it was of utmost important to him that we get together with him one more time before we returned to Mozambique. We all agreed that we desired that time of food, fellowship, laughter & prayer together, so when we recently called to talk about setting that time up, we were shocked to hear he had already graduated to heaven. So Rod, if you’re reading this from heaven, know that we are still looking forward to that time together, and just because you beat us to heaven doesn’t mean you’re getting out of fulfilling that invitation. It’s just that the location will be different, but we know It will be perfect. (And since I never got that chance to do the zip-line at your home, how about you get one set up for me up there before I arrive?) We love you Rod!
