Smith, Geraldine “Jerry”
Saginaw, Michigan Our beloved mother, grandmother and dear friend passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 6, 2021 at Covenant HealthCare – Cooper. She was 93 years old. Geraldine Ione Jones was born on April 26, 1928 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late Archie and Cathana (Watson) Jones. She married Howard Smith in 1946. He preceded her in death on June 1, 1994.
Jerry worked for Wiechmann's in downtown Saginaw for many years. She also spent many volunteer hours working for the Veterans Administration, helping with local elections and in her daughter's schools. Anytime she could volunteer, she would. Jerry enjoyed fishing, gardening and had a beautiful gift for fashion sketching. She loved the simple things in life and being outdoors amongst nature was her favorite place to be. She will be greatly missed for her great sense of humor, beautiful smile and deep faith.
Jerry is survived by her daughters: Lyneeta (LaMont) Boykins and Sherry Borener; grandchildren: LaMont II, Julian and Chandler Boykins, Elizabeth Johnson and Aurora Rivera.
According to Jerry's wishes, cremation has taken place and she will be buried at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens. A small gathering will take place at the Eastlawn Chapel on Monday, July 12, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. Arrangements have been entrusted to Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. Mrs. Smith was always a ray of sunshine. I visited her often at her home when we lived just blocks away.
I enjoyed watching game shows with her and helping her use her cigarette rolling machine back before we had both kicked that bad habit. Sorry Lyneeta. She was allowed that. One of her very few vices.
I would bring my Son Tyler over for visits from time-to-time and she would get a kick out of watching him and taking with him. I wonder if Tyler remembers those visits?
She was just fun to be with. I will miss her dearly and I know I will see her again in the coming resurrection that Jehovah has promised in His word the Bible, found at Acts 24:15 where the Apostle Luke says, "And I have hope toward God, which hope these men also look forward to, that there is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous."
I pray that the peace that only Jehovah's holy spirit can give be with all who are suffering the loss of our dear friend, Mother and Grandmother.

Dear Sherry, Lyneeta and family,
Asking God to bless each of you as you transition through this trying time. I saw Mrs. Jerry at Med Express a few years back, and I was so happy that she knew who I was. We hugged, laughed and talked.
Sherry, it was those wonderful weekends up in Idlewild that I cherish so much. We had so much fun, and never wanted for anything. You and Lyneeta always got what you wanted, and because of that, I reaped some benefits too. Oh…I can’t leave out going to St. Joe’s for Mass either. We had it all on 4th street: Catholic, A.M.E., Baptist and Church if God in Christ, we were well rounded.
