Penny Hopper

Hopper, Penny Ann Saginaw, Michigan Loving mother, grandmother, and sister passed away on Sunday evening, April 4, 2021 at Ascension St. Mary's. She was 71 years old. Penny Ann LaVigne was born August 13, 1949 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late William and Leona (Lasecki) LaVigne. She married George O. Hopper Jr. on October 23, 1971, he preceded her in death on February 6, 2001. Penny was employed by Carrollton Public Schools as a paraprofessional, retiring in 2014 after many years of service. Penny was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Carrollton for many years until their closure and then attended 242 Community Church. She loved spending time at the Zilwaukee Boat Launch while reading her favorite books and watching the boats come through. Penny had a big heart and lived a life of service, her door was always open for anyone that needed help. Together with her sisters, she would host misfit Christmas for anyone that didn't have a place to go on Christmas. But, what she really loved most was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Surviving are one son, Matthew (Ellen) Hopper; daughter in-law, Farrah Madsen; grandchildren, Georgie IV, Griffin, Lincoln, Gage, Samuel, and Lillian; siblings, Darlene (Jerry) Ursuy, Terry (Michelle) LaVigne, Michelle (Scott) Bergquist; sister in-law, Judy LaVigne; brother and sister in-law, Elson (Hattie) Hopper and many nieces and nephews. Penny was preceded in death by her son, Georgie O. Hopper III; brother, Ronald LaVigne. MEMORIAL SERVICE: A Memorial Service will take place at 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 25, 2020 at 242 Community Church, 2302 Amelith Road, Bay City, MI 48706. In keeping with Penny's free spirited personality and her love for motorcycles, we encourage those that are able, to please join us in procession on your motorcycle to escort her from the church to Mt. Olivet Cemetery where she will be laid to rest. A reception will be held following the interment at 5:00 p.m. at the Red Horse Bar, 4798 State Street, Saginaw. VISITATION: Family and friends are welcome to gather at the church on Friday, June 25, 2021 from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. Deisler Funeral Home is honored to serve the Hopper family.
