Kathleen Gilles

Kathleen (Murphy) Virginia Gilles, age 91 passed away May 2, 2021 at Edgewood Assisted Living, Saginaw, Michigan. She was born on October 29, 1929 (Black Tuesday) in Saginaw, Michigan the daughter of Bernard Patrick and Ann M. (Pretzer) Murphy. Kathleen graduated from St. Peter and St. Paul in 1947 and from St. Mary's Hospital School of Nursing in 1951. Kathleen was united in marriage to Norbert Gilles on April 16, 1955 at St. Helen's Catholic Church in Saginaw, Michigan. He preceded her in death in February 2003. Kathleen was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church for many years. For 33 years Kathleen worked for Dr. Morgrette. In 1995 she retired from Saginaw General (now Covenant Harrison) after working 8 ½ years as an RN in the ICU. Kathleen is a Charter Member of the Saginaw West Lions Club, a Life Member of the League of Catholic Women, she also belonged to St. Mary's Nursing Alumni Association, the Daughters of Isabella St. Margaret's Circle #653, Father Nouvel #4232 Women's Auxiliary, and a member of Women of the Moose. She enjoyed singing with the Resurrection Choir, traveling, playing bingo and especially visiting; with old friends and making new ones. Kathleen is survived by two sisters; Marjory Loiacano and Marian Hughes of Saginaw and two brothers; John Murphy of Saginaw and B. Patrick (Charlene) Murphy of Wyoming, MI, a very special niece; Ann Loiacano and several nieces and nephews. Kathleen was predeceased by her parents and her husband, Norbert. FUNERAL: A funeral liturgy will take place Friday, May 7, 2021 at 10:30 AM at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 5376 State St. Saginaw. Father Richard A. Bokinskie to officiate. Interment to follow in St. Andrew Cemetery. VISITATION: Family and friends are welcome to visit Friday, May 7, 2021 from 9:30 until the time of mass at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. MEMORIALS: Contributions may be made to the Knights of Columbus College Scholarship Fund, the Neo Natal Unit Covenant Harrison; or B. Patrick Murphy Scholarship Fund.
