Obituary
Our loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and dear friend passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 31, 2021 at his home, surrounded by his family. He was 71 years old. Craig was born on June 4, 1949 in Clare, Michigan to the late Richard and T. Elaine (Petosky) Romes. Craig married the love of his life, Betty Schoenmeyer on October 16, 1971 in Saginaw, Michigan, she survived him. He was a member of the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians, Saginaw Field and Stream and the National Rifle Association. Craig enjoyed riding his motorcycle, sailing, fishing, spoiling his grandchildren and hanging out at his favorite watering hole. Craig is survived by his wife, Betty; children: AmyLynn (Joseph) Bollman, Dana (Justin) Schmidt and Jeremy (Kelly) Romes; grandchildren: Diana (Jacob) Nauman, Mason (Sharon) Schmidt, Zachary (Hannah) Ludwig, Maxx Schmidt, Emma Romes and Ethan Romes and a sister; Roz (Ken) Howell. Craig was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Madison "Maddie" Schmidt VISITATION: A Celebration of Life memorial gathering for Craig will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2021 from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) Saginaw, MI 48603. In keeping with mandated ordinances and for the safety of the community, face masks are required, social distancing, and gathering guidelines will be observed. Dad was a bit of an inventor. I'll never forget those stilts he made us kids. I spent days trying to master those. He spent days laughing at how awkward I was on them.
I'll miss him a lot, but he will live forever in my heart and memories.

Craig and I became friends when I took over his Bay City Times news paper route. We worked together all through high school; trimming Christmas trees, cleaning the Budd movie theater, shoveling snow and working on cars in my fathers gas station in Harrison. Craig was a good friend and was never scared of hard work.

I worked with Craig at plant 5 Saginaw Steering Gear, he was quite the character! He was very intelligent and knew a whole lot more than what he let on. We enjoyed one another's company after work at the Backstreet Bar, where Animal would would talk about all of his endeavors. He had a lot going for him, sorry for your loss!
