Sheldon Weiland

Passed away Thursday, December 3, 2020 at Covenant Healthcare at the age of 93. Sheldon was born on May 15, 1927 the son of Ernest and Arrah (Trinklien) Weiland. He graduated from Arthur Hill High School and went on to serve his country during WWII with the United States Army. Following his honorable discharge Sheldon was a member of American Legion Post #439. He was employed as an electrician with IBEW, Local #557, and retired when he was 62 years old. He was a faithful member of Resurrection Lutheran Church. Sheldon had a passion for building and flying his airplanes, and enjoyed attending the Airplane Show out in Las Vegas, and was a member of the Saginaw Valley Radio Control Club. During retirement, Sheldon and JoAnn enjoyed traveling all over the world, and was a member of the Washington Club. Sheldon married the love of his life, JoAnn (Letts) Weiland on April 11, 1970, and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this past April. He is also survived by his sister, Carolyn Gemmell; one nephew and two nieces: Holly Gemmell, John Gemmell and Shelley (Timothy) Tibbits; great nieces and great nephew: Lauren Tibbits and Frank Tibbits; sister-in-law, Mary Kriegish and several other nieces and nephews. Sheldon was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Dr. Frank Gemmell. FUNERAL: A funeral service will take place at 12:00 p.m. Thursday, December 10, 2020 at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 2110 Brockway Road, Saginaw MI 48602. Rev. Kathleen Basner will officiate. Burial and Military honors under the auspices of the United States Army and American Legion Post #439 will follow the funeral service at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. In keeping with mandated ordinances and for the safety of the community, face masks are required, social distancing, and gathering guidelines will be observed.
