Carey, Joan Ellen Saginaw, Michigan Our beloved wife, mother and grandmother passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 16, 2020 at Edgewood Assisted Living. She was 79 years old. Joan Ellen Rapp was born on December 21, 1940 in Jersey City, New Jersey to the late Charles and Hilda (Stitch) Rapp. Joan grew up in New Jersey and while working there she met her husband, Vern Ronald "Ron" Carey. Through a work transfer for Ron, Joan and Ron settled in Huron, Ohio where they raised their daughters. In 1989 they were transferred to Saginaw. Joan will be deeply missed by her husband, Ron Carey; daughters: Jennifer (Glenn "GC") Schaner and Kelley Mason; grandson, Tyler James Mason, as well as nieces, nephews and friends. Joan was a selfless mother and wife who always put the needs of her family before her own. A mother who was very active in all her daughters' activities from leading Girl Scout troops, leading school fundraisers and being a softball Mom attending every practice and game cheering on her daughters. Joan was a great cook, animal lover and had quite a green thumb; she also enjoyed being an amateur photographer, while not always appreciated by her daughters while they were young, they now love continuing in their mother's footsteps snapping lots of pictures of all the momentous people and occasions in their life. After retirement, Joan reveled in being a Grandmother, she also enjoyed winter trips to their condo in Orlando, FL with family and friends. According to Joan's wishes, cremation has taken place and the family will gather privately to celebrate her life. I LOVE this photo of Aunt Joan! Whenever I think of her positive influence on my young life I start smiling! She helped me transition a two-wheeled bike and taught me how to ride and steer it without hands. Haha! She will always be remembered for her indomitable spirit, love of a good joke and riotous laugher. Rest in peace Aunt Joan and enjoy your reunion with Helen.

Our family was deeply saddened to learn of Joan's passing and we send heartfelt sympathy to Ron, Jenny, and Kelley. We have so many fond memories of our neighbor on Cheryl and times we shared talking about our families and our yards. Joan sure knew everything there was to know about flowers! Her laugh and sense of humor could light up a room, and it certainly made for many happy summer afternoons around the pool. We hope that warm thoughts of her will help you through this difficult time and keep her ever near.
