Joseph Chmielewski

Chmielewski, Joseph R. "Joe" Saginaw, Michigan Our beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away at his home on Tuesday, January 21, 2020. He was 78 years old. Joseph Ronald Chmielewski was born July 6, 1941 in Saginaw to the late Joseph Frank and Catherine T. (Callahan) Chmielewski. Joe graduated from Holy Family High School in 1959. He worked for Vescio's Grocery Store after high school. Joe then worked for General Motors at both Nodular and Grey Iron until his retirement in October of 1999. He was a member of U.A.W. Local #668. He married Pamela Marie Freeman on June 19, 1971, she survives him. Joe had a quiet and generous spirit, and he enjoyed spending time with his family, tending to his yard, taking trips to the casino and watching sports including the Red Wings, Lions and Tigers. Joe is survived by his wife, Pamela; daughter, Amy Chmielewski; son, Joseph Edward (Amanda) Chmielewski; grandsons: James and Knox Chmielewski. He is also survived by many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, friends and dear neighbors. FUNERAL: A funeral liturgy for Joe will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 25, 2020 at St. John Paul II Parish - St. Josaphat site, 469 Shattuck Road, Saginaw, MI 48604. Rev. Fr. Matthew Federico will officiate. Rite of committal will follow at St. Andrew Mausoleum. VISITATION: Family and friends will gather at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) on Friday, January 24, 2020 from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m.; a Vigil Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home on Friday. Joe will lie in state at the church on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.
