Dorothy Thomas

Thomas, Dorothy Mae of Saginaw, Michigan. Passed away peacefully on Friday morning, December 20, 2019, at Saginaw Senior Care and Rehab Center. She was 91 years old. Dorothy Mae Shephard was born July 22, 1928, in Natchez, Mississippi to the late Willie and Beatrice (Hargraves) Shephard. She married Booker T. Thomas on April 12, 1947, in Natchez, Mississippi. He preceded her in death on June 30, 1989. Dorothy was employed by Saginaw Osteopathic Hospital as a Laboratory Technician, retiring after 34 years of service. She loved gardening and tending to her beautiful flowers. Dorothy also enjoyed cooking and baking fantastic cornbread dressing and delicious sweet potato and buttermilk pies. But, what she really loved most was traveling with her husband in their RV and spending time with her loving family. Surviving are her children, Cloddie Johnson, Booker T. Thomas Jr., Brenda Thomas, and Tyrone Thomas; granddaughter, Rhonda (Edgar) Johnson-Frank; goddaughter, Alicia Caffey; eleven grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; sister, Flora Ivory and many nieces and nephews. Dorothy was preceded in death by her grandson, Tyrone Hamilton Jr.; brothers, Jerry and Willie Shephard Jr., and her sister, Cordelia Mathious. FUNERAL SERVICE: A Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 27, 2019, at Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State), Saginaw, MI 48638. Rev. Joshua Rager will officiate. Committal service to follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery. VISITATION: Family and friends will gather at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) on Thursday, December 26, 2019, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at the funeral home on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the wishes of the family c/o Brenda Thomas.
