Mason, Charles "Charlie" F. Saginaw, Michigan Passed away on Monday, March 18, 2019 at Caretel-Inns of Tri-Cities. He was 91 years old. Charles Frederick Mason was born on February 27, 1928 in Mt. Morris, Michigan to the late Thomas and Agnes (Phillips) Mason. Charlie proudly served his country during World War II with the United States Army, completing his service in the Philippines in 1945 when the war ended. He returned home and continued to serve his community with the Saginaw Police Department, retiring as Captain after 40 years. Charlie was a Sharpshooter with firearms, receiving many awards throughout his life, and he enjoyed teaching and training. Charlie was a member of the Non Commissioned Officers Association, American Legion Post #22 and past member of #357 Military Police Company. After retirement, Charlie and Irene spent many winters in Rio Grande Valley, Texas. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting. Charlie married Beulah Irene "Boots" Rolfe on May 2, 1981, and she survives him. He is also survived by his children: Deborah Mason, Cynthia Bierman and David (Denise) Mason; step-son: Michael (Teresa) Barnikow; grandchildren: Charles Mason, Joseph Mason, Jacob (Sarah) Garceau, Joshua (Amy) Garceau, Matthew (Nikki) Bierman, Hyatt (Brian) Smith and Thomas Barnikow; several great-grandchildren; brothers: Thomas (June) Mason and Max (Patricia) Mason; and his sister, Mary Ellen Houston. Charlie was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Mason. Charlie's family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Caretel-Inns of Tri-Cities for the care and support that they have provided. FUNERAL: A funeral service for Chuck will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State). Deacon Jeffery A. Rauschert will officiate. Entombment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Military honors under the auspices of the U.S. Army and American Legion Post #22 will be held at the mausoleum. VISITATION: Family and friends will gather at the funeral home on Friday, March 22, 2019 from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider a donation to the Saginaw Valley K-9 Association or the Aleda E. Lutz V.A. Uncle Chuck as he was fondly called by me and my brothers and cousins as well was a good soul in my book. He was there for me in the best of times and worst of times before and after my father Robert passed away. If I needed him he was always a phone call away. I have so many memories of my Uncle because he lived so close to us in Saginaw and was ever present at our house.
I'd like to share one memory that wasn't funny to me at the time but makes me laugh now. I was a very rebellious teen and went to a garage party against my mother's wishes. After she tracked me down, rather than come get me herself, she called Uncle Chuck and asked him go pick me up. Needless to say he pulled up in his police cruiser and walked into the party in full uniform. Teens were scrambling to find an escape thinking the party was being raided by the cops and he stood in the doorway and smiled and pointed at me and said, " I just came for her". My social life was pretty dull for awhile after that.
I'm thankful that on my trips home to Michigan I always made a point to see him if I could. My last time to visit he was still living at home, but I could see he was puzzling over who I was. Aunt Boots reminded him and I know by the smile I saw in his eyes he remembered but couldn't find the words. I still saw that giant of a man I loved as a kid and as an adult. He will be missed.
Love to all of my Mason family and the people who knew and loved Charles Mason. His big voice and booming laugh are forever in my heart.

We are so sorry for your loss. My father (George Kyle), was a good friend of Charlie's. He would bring books to Rachel when she was young. Now she has four children of her own.
I remember him always smiling. He was a very special person. We wish you God's peace during these difficult times. We will keep you in our prayers. God Bless!

Sorry to hear of Charlies passing. Used to see him at Ray Kauers house. He was a friend of my Uncle Jim Call.Charlie was one in a million.No one like him since Dogs used to talk.God Bless you and your Family Charlie and thanks for your service.Would have been at your Funeral but am ill.Vous ave touche mon coeur.Au Revoir.Thomas R. I trained with Charlie at Saginaw PD he was a very good friend partly responsible for saving my life. I live in Florida so I didn’t know and I was just thinking about him and what a good guy he was.
