Obituary
Boersma, Marvin John Saginaw Township, Michigan Passed away Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, MI, at the age of 82. Marvin, son of Melle and Maude (Whittet) Boersma, was born on December 31, 1936, in Cadillac, MI. He was united in marriage to the former Sally Kay Nelson in Cadillac on June 8, 1957. Marv was a graduate of Cadillac High School, class of 1955. He graduated from Central Michigan University and Saginaw Valley State University. Marv taught physical education and woodshop at Bridgeport Junior High School for 30 years. He enjoyed refinishing oak furniture and playing euchre at the Eagles Club, Moose Lodge, and the Senior Center. His greatest joy was being involved in his grandchildren's sporting events either as their coach or their #1 fan. Marv is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Sally; three children: Deborah (Gerald) Myczkowiak, David (Carol) Boersma, and Donald (Valerie) Boersma; nine grandchildren: Kelly (Avelino) Cortez, Kyle (Vivian) Myczkowiak, Eric Myczkowiak; Meghan Burleigh, Devin Boersma; Ashley, Breanna, Ethan, and Adam Boersma; four great-grandchildren: Daniel and Shaun Boersma, Carter Cortez, and baby Myczkowiak who is due to make an arrival in August; two brothers: Jon (Donna) Boersma and Tom (Vickie) Boersma; sister in-law Gloria Boersma; brother in-law Kenneth (Gen) Hendricks; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Marv was preceded in death by a brother, Don Boersma, and a sister, JoAnn Hendricks. FUNERAL: A funeral service for Marv will take place Monday, March 4, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) with Rev. Fr. Jack Johnson to officiate. VISITATION: Family and friends will gather at the funeral home on Sunday, March 3, 2019 from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and again Monday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. I just saw him a few months back walking in the mall and had a long talk. He was my teacher every year at the middle school. He also lived on Southfield Village where I lived. He was a great teacher And i told him. I also told him he was one of the teachers that inspired me to be a teacher. Bridgeport (I have) had so many teachers teachers while i was in school!
