Ernestine Castillo

Castillo, Ernestine "Ernie" of Saginaw Township Beloved sister, aunt, cousin, Godmother and friend passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, February 16, 2018 with her family by her side. She was 84 years old. Ernestine Castillo was born on November 7, 1933 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late Sabino and Juanita (Hernandez) Castillo. She was a proud graduate of Saginaw High School. Following graduation, she began working for La Favorita Grocery Store and the Community Clinic for a number of years. Ernie then began working for General Motors, retiring after 23 years of dedicated service. She was a faithful and devout Catholic. Ernie was a former member of both St. Joseph Catholic Church and Holy Spirit Catholic Church. She enjoyed shopping, especially for jewelry and purses. Ernie also enjoyed cooking for her family and friends, as well as golfing. She will forever be remembered as a pillar of faith to her family. Her generosity and kindness will live on through all she loved. Surviving are a brother and a sister: Sylvester Costello of El Paso, TX and Eleanor Castillo of Lansing; and two special cousins: Lupe Torrez of Saginaw and Mary Ellen Torrez of Saginaw. Also surviving are many cousins, nieces, nephews and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by four brothers; Mauro, Manuel, Peter and Richard Castillo; and one sister, Julia Vargas. FUNERAL: A Funeral Liturgy will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 910 N. 6th Ave. Rev. Fr. Francis Voris, OFM Cap will officiate. Rite of Committal will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit with the family at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass at 10:00 a.m. MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Joseph Catholic Church.
