Obituary
Gettel, Daniel "Dan" Robert of Saginaw Township, Michigan Beloved brother, uncle, companion and friend passed away unexpectedly on Friday, February 16, 2018 at his home, due to complications from a brief illness. He was 66 years old. Dan was born on April 26, 1951 in Pigeon, Michigan to the late Wilmer and Delma (Phillips) Gettel. He attended high school in Owendale and graduated from Garber High School in Essexville with the class of 1969. Following graduation, he was employed at General Motors for 10 years as a machine operator at their Bay City location. Dan then became licensed in real estate and became a broker. He also worked for McDonald Pontiac Cadillac for 20 years prior to owning and operating Gettel Automotive. Dan was extremely proud of owning his 1962 white Corvette. He enjoyed working on cars and occasionally going out on motorcycle rides. Above all he loved and cherished his family, especially spending time at his cabin on Henderson Lake. He will forever be remembered for his kindness, his easy going spirit and his wonderful sense of humor. Surviving are one sister and one brother: Susan (Joe) Lizon of Ortonville, Michigan and Rick Gettel (Karen Bublitz) of Essexville; a nephew, Christopher (Jessica) Lizon of Goodrich; two nieces: Anna (Scott) Dilworth of Goodrich and Nicole (Rick) Causley of Essexville; four great-nephews; two great-nieces; a loving companion, Darci Chambers of Auburn; and his beloved dog, Emma Lou. FUNERAL: Honoring Dan's wishes cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State). Pastor Jim Doran will officiate. VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit with the family on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the service. MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the Gettel Family c/o Susan Lizon or a charity of the donor's choice. I've known Dan since he was 16. I was his first girlfriend all through high school. Stayed friends and in touch for over 50 years. Many many memories and lot's of laugh's. I will miss him terribly. Can't believe this has happened.

I could always count on Dan to be there when I needed help or just an ear to listen. He meant a great deal to me and my family. My daughter thought of him like a dad. He will be missed very much.
