James Boyd

Boyd, James C. of Saginaw, Michigan Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather passed away on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 age 96. He was born on December 8, 1921 in in Saginaw, Michigan to the late Clarence and Elsie (Engel) Boyd. He married the late Dorothy M. Mattheis, his high school sweet heart on September 14, 1943 in Ocala, Florida. They were married 67 years. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Susan Jean and Louis H. White of Frankenmuth; four grandchildren: Wendy (Kevin) Schlett of Grand Rapids, Cindy (David) White of Dundee, Brighan (Ryan) Marsh of Athens, GA, Benjamin (Jessica) Gesch of Marietta, GA; eight great grandchildren: Jacob and Morgan White, Margaret, Evalynn, Hannah and Grace Schlett, Liam Marsh and Juliet Gesch. He was preceded in death by two daughters: Barbara Ann Gesch and Carol Lynn Boyd; two sisters: Ruth Sutherland and Doris Ann Martin; and one brother, John Boyd. He was a flight instructor in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII and worked at Skyway Furniture for 40 years, retiring in 1986. Jim enjoyed woodworking making seven grandfather clocks for his children and grandchildren. He and Dorothy were lifelong members of the Germania Club and enjoyed golfing and traveling together. FUNERAL: A Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 29, 2018 at Peace Lutheran Church, 3427 Adams Street. Rev. C.W. Weis will officiate. Military Honors under the auspices of the United States Army and American Legion Post # 439 will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the church on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Peace Lutheran Church or a charity of the donor's choice.
