Gary Tompa

Tompa, Gary of Saginaw Township, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 21, 2017. He was 76 years old. Gary J. Tompa was born on October 5, 1941 in Saginaw to the late Julius and Evelyn (Shields) Tompa. Gary married Kathleen Urbancik on August 25, 1962 in Freeland, she survives him. Gary worked at Malleable Iron for over 30 years, retiring in 2000. He loved to race Drag Cars, which he owned, drove and maintained for 47 years. Gary raced within the NHRA Association within Michigan and surrounding states, winning many trophies and awards. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, Kathy, "his pitcrew", spending time with his racing friends and gardening. He is survived by his wife, Kathy; son, Scott Tompa; sisters, Janice (William) Jackson and Judith Tompa; brother, Richard Tompa. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, dear friends and neighbors. He was preceded in death by his twin sons: Michael and David Tompa (1972) and his son, James Tompa (1973); and sister-in-law, Marilyn Tompa. FUNERAL: A Funeral Service will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State). Pastor Bill Bodnar will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Andrew Cemetery. VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the funeral home on Tuesday, December 26, 2017 from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.; and on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
