Ward, Donald E. "Don" Freeland, Michigan Passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 5, 2017 at his home. He was 89 years old. Donald E. Ward was born on August 12, 1927 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Earl and Ella (LaFave) Ward. He married Donna J. Avery on January 5, 1952 in Detroit, MI. She survived him. Don proudly served his country with the US Navy, during World War II. He worked at Baker Perkins for over 30 years, retiring in 1989. After his retirement he was a bus driver for Nouvel Catholic High School. Don loved to hunt, fish, woodworking, take trips to the Casino and horse racing. His biggest love was spending time with his family and making memories that will be cherished forever. Don is survived by his wife, Donna; daughters: Gail Brown, Laurie (Matt) Jacob and Jennifer (Walter) Wysopal; six grandchildren: Cortney Carroll, Brooke (Andrew) Grider, Matthew Jacob, Joshua Jacob, Kaitlyn Wysopal, Morgan Wysopal; great grandchildren: Beck and Quinn Grider, Carson and Peyton Carroll; sister, Mary Jane; and a brother, Lloyd Ward. Don was preceded in death by his parents and an infant daughter, Amy Ward. According to Don's wishes, cremation has taken place, and there are no services planned at this time. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Don's memory. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State). Have many nice memories of Don at the horse races Always good to see him. Will always remember his gardening and all the apples he grew. Was a good man. Very talented. His children always talked about how he could fix anything. He will be missed. Harry and Mary Jane Jacob.

Every time Don would see my son Jacob, he would ask him how his guitar playing was going. I think they had the same guitar teacher:) :guitar:

I remember always going to the cabin as a child, and Don would take us on the pontoon, he always called me Listvan, I'm not sure he even knew my first name.
