Obituary
Cummings, Carolyn H. Saginaw, Michigan Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away on Friday, February 3, 2017 at home with family at her side. Carolyn was born in Ishpeming, Michigan and was a true "Yooper". She was the daughter of the late Laurence and Martha Nault. Carolyn was married to John D. Cummings and they recently celebrated their 40th anniversary. Carolyn is survived by her husband and children, Kristen (Chris) Deutsch, Indianapolis, IN, Ann Jackson, Lansing, Michigan, Steven (Dana) Humphrey, Farwell, Michigan, Gretchen (Matthew) Lough, Indianapolis, IN, stepchildren, Christine (Vern) Solis, Saline, Michigan and Addison Cummings, Breckenridge, CO, eleven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Carolyn was preceded in death by one sister, Peggy L. Manty. Carolyn had a long career as an educator. She was a teacher in the Hemlock and Freeland school systems and a consultant for the Saginaw Intermediate School District. She then owned her own consulting company advising teachers how to advocate on behalf of young children across the country. Carolyn was past President of the Michigan Reading Association, President of the Saginaw Bay Chapter Phi Delta Kappa, and a member of numerous other organizations throughout her career. Carolyn was an inspiration to all of us. A good friend in so many ways and will be greatly missed. A private funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2017, in Saginaw, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, St. Jude's Hospital for Children, hospice, or a charity of your choice in Carolyn's honor. Carolyn was a consummate educator. I am one of many teachers and school administrators who were privileged to participate in the excellent professional development trainings she offered. Carolyn loved children and was a fervent advocate for them. Her energy, dedication, and sense of humor were inspiring and her legacy will live on in those thousands whose lives she touched. My condolences to her family. I hope you may be comforted by knowing that the world is a better place because Carolyn was here and gave so generously of herself to so many people.

Carolyn was a wonderful Childcare advocate, who helped me along the way with my professional development training so I could receive my Child Development Associate, and become an Assistant Preschool Teacher. She was a warm and caring person, and it was a privilege to have met her. My sincere and deepest sympathy to her family.
