Obituary
Burt Fettig passed away at the Cartwright Care Center on November 5, 2016, age 81 years old. Burt was born on September 11, 1935, the only child of the late George C. and Evelyn Ellithorpe Fettig, in Bay City, Michigan. He was a graduate of Bay City Central High School, class of 1953, where he was an all-state football player, Bay City Junior College in 1955, and earned a Bachelor's Degree from George Williams College in 1957. His first professional job was as Youth Secretary at the Bay City YMCA, enlisting then in the United States Army. Burt earned his Master's Degree from Central Michigan University in 1961. He married Linda Enstrom on January 27, 1968. They moved to Bloomington, Indiana where he earned his Doctorate Degree at Indiana University. Burt worked in the Bay City Public Schools, the Pontiac Public Schools, California University of Pennsylvania, Indiana University, and Central Michigan University. He retired from Delta College as Dean of Students after 36 years in education. In support of their love of education, Burt and Linda established endowed scholarships at Delta College and with the Community Foundation of Greene County, Pennsylvania. There will be no visitation and it is asked for there to be no flowers or remembrance gifts. Burt's deepest wish is for consideration of contributions to the Dow Bay Area Family YMCA, 225 Washington Ave., Bay City, MI 48708, the Fettig Family Scholarship at the Delta College Foundation, 1961 Delta Road, University Center, MI 48710, or a charity of the donor's choice. Burt and Linda would like to recognize Dr. Rajoulh, Dr. Al-Rejleh, Dr. Shah, Dr. Balcueva, and the Cartwright Care Center staff for their dedication, caring and guidance during his illness. It seems fitting to send an electronic note, as Burt and I exchanged at least 10 emails for every 1 other form of communication. My contact with Burt was largely through what I called the "Old Guy Golf League." Burt created a lot of enjoyment for a lot of old guys when he organized and ran this league. Always pleasant, generous - I will miss him. Mort Weldy

My condolences goes to Linda and the family, but also everyone at Delta who knew Burt!! As Pete said, Burt was one of the GOOD GUYS and he was!! He was always friendly, do anything for you and always had a smile on his face!! Burt would ask how are you doing, how was your family....his focus was on you, not himself even though you'd try to see how his life was too!! I knew Burt more on the Delta golf league/outings and the Golf Classic than in his role at Delta but I never heard one harsh word about Burt, he seemed to be liked/loved by everyone!! Also, I never would have guessed Burt to be 81....in my mind he was always young!! :) Burt, you will be missed.... :(

So sorry for your loss, Burt was truly a wonderful man.
I will miss his kindness and caring ways in our neighborhood. Burt left a positive influence and sweet smile with everyone lucky enough to call him friend and neighbor.

My deepest sympathy to Burt's family during this time of loss. He was my counselor in the Tuscarora cabin at the Bay city YMCA's Camp Iroquois back in the mid 1950's. I later knew him through Delta College. May he Rest In Peace.
