Obituary
Bottke, Emma Saginaw, Michigan Our loving mother, grandmother and friend passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at Barton Woods Assisted Living. She was greeted with the open arms of her Lord in heaven and is now dancing with the love of her life, Harvey. She was 94 years old. Emma Mary Dickman was born on June 14, 1922 in Saginaw to the late Charles "Todd" and Maude (Brown) Dickman. She was a graduate of Saginaw High School, Class of 1939, and then attended Business School. Emma married her high school sweetheart, Harvey D. Bottke on July 25, 1942. After his passing on April 7, 2004 her heart ached for them to be reunited. Emma enjoyed working with children and was employed by the Saginaw Public Schools. She also was a dedicated volunteer at the Millet Learning Center in Bridgeport. Emma and Harvey were members and worshiped together at Zion Lutheran Church and Peace Lutheran Church. Emma was very talented in many areas of crafting, including her love of painting. She also enjoyed her membership with the Saginaw Garden Club. Emma and Harvey were lifetime members of the Germania Club for over 50 years, where they enjoyed bowling and many social activities. For over 37 years Emma and Harvey loved to spend time with family and friends at the cottage at Van Etten Lake in Oscoda. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Emma is survived by her children: Chuck (Roz) Bottke, John (Mary) Bottke, Jim (Ann Marie) Bottke, Beth (Dave) Quimby; ten special grandchildren; nine beautiful great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Doris Bottke and Gerry Dickman; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Emma's family will deeply miss her for her unconditional love, selfless acts of kindness, and her contagious joy and laughter. She was preceded in death by her parents; her soul mate for 61 years, Harvey; brother, Charles T. Dickman, Jr; and sister, Bea Martin. Emma's family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Barton Woods Assisted Living for their kindness and compassion. FUNERAL: A funeral service for Emma will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 27, 2016 at Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (Off State) Rev. Paul Hinz will officiate with entombment to follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the funeral home, on Sunday, June 26, 2016 from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. and on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Grandma was about enjoying life. She was about people being together and having a great time -- laughing, telling great stories, playing cards, and otherwise whooping it up. She told hilarious stories and jokes. I remember some of her friends she knew for decades, many years before I was born. She was impressively dedicated to her family, all members of her family. I remember her unmatchable cooking -- most especially her hand-rolled noodles for chicken soup. I remember her asking me to leave her kitchen if I lingered and asked to help.
I have powerful memories of her with open arms each summer at the cottage, crouching down to greet me with a big hug as I ran into her arms -- and every Christmas in Saginaw-- and I can hear her saying "Hi, Aim-Boo!"
I remember her at Christmas pulling out a top or an outfit from a gift box and saying, "...it's from Jake's....isn't that darrr-ling!"
I remember when she got me, Lisa, and Aunt Bethann down on our knees with elbows on the bench of her organ to pray that Todd would be okay the Christmas Eve he choked on the piece of meat and was rushed to the ER.
I remember her dancing. I remember how pretty she was in all stages and ages of life, her hair always done so nicely, her outfits always perfect.
I remember her dancing at my wedding. I remember her holding our Stella at 6-months-old at Melissa and James' wedding.
You were so kind and loving to me all through my life. I will miss you deeply, Grandma.
