Obituary
Peña, Guadalupe R. of Saginaw Township, Michigan, Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend passed away on Monday, March 14, 2016, in the comfort of his home with his family by his side. He was 88 years old. Guadalupe R. Peña was born on September 24, 1927, in Round Rock, Texas to the late Baltazar and Juana (Rodriguez) Peña. He married the love of his life, Sarah Angelica Moreno on August 26, 1954 in Owosso, Michigan; she survives him. He honorably served his country by enlisting in the United States Airforce, serving during the Korean War. He was employed with General Motors for over 40 years, retiring in 1992. Prior to working in the automotive industry, Guadalupe worked as a carpenter at Saginaw Lumber. He was a quick learner and could build anything, especially projects for his home or family. Guadalupe was also a lover of all music, but held a special place in his heart for Mexican music. He was of the Catholic Faith. Above all, he loved and cherished his family and friends. He will forever be remembered for his selflessness to his family, his generosity and his wonderful sense of humor. Surviving are his beloved wife of 61 years, Sarah A. Peña of Saginaw Township; four daughters and two sons: Raquel Rico of Saginaw, Sylvia (Ben) Peña-Cantú of Saginaw, Joel (Pamela) Peña of Belding, Miriam (Vincent) Peña-Cieluch of Arvada, CO, Michael (Margie) Peña of Saginaw and Rosemary Peña and her companion, Brian Trybulski of Saginaw; 16 grandchildren: Yolanda Rico, Myriam Rico, Jacinto Rico, Marcus (Jennifer) Peña, Christina Cantú, Larry (Lisa) Peña, Stacy (David) Corbin, Lisa Peña, Michael (Erica) Peña, Leslie Peña, Jared Peña and his girlfriend, Amanda, Jacob Peña and his fiancée, Jenny, Christian Peña, Sarah (Andrew) Barnes, Alexandra Trybulski, and Nicholas Trybulski; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, Raul (Norma) Peña; and a sister, Genevieve Vriesen. He was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers: Rosa Gonzalez, Feliza Esparza, Cruz Peña, Rodolfo Peña, and Natividad Peña. FUNERAL: A Funeral Liturgy will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 18, 2016 at St. Dominic Parish, St. Stephen Catholic Church, 1310 Malzahn. Rev. Fr. Steve Gavit will officiate. Rite of Committal will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) on Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A Vigil Service will led by Pastoral Associate, Sharon Wahl will take place at 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening. Guadalupe will lie in state at the church on Friday from 12:00 p.m. until the time of Mass. MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Dominic Parish St. Stephan Catholic Church. I have so many good memories and I want to share my favorites. I remember how he was always working and helping all of our family and friends. Seems most of my memories are of him and uncle Raul. Always together chatting away working on a building project. Driving me home from a visit listening when they thought I was asleep in the back. While they made jokes about the joggers on the side of the road. Sneaking up at night to find grandpa eating his peanuts and drinking his soda while watching the Spanish channel. When I had my Ashton he made Shirley Temple jokes and tugged her curls. When I had Joel he made jokes about if people thought I was babysitting when I went shopping O.O. My kids still laugh about that one. My last memory was standing In my dads garage talking to him as he told me how he loved that I had such a big family. How proud he was of my dad and mom. It was the most we ever spoke. I'm so glad that I have that memory to look back on and share. He was a good man and I believe that he had made his mark on all of us in his own way. I thank the Lord for blessing me to be able to call him grandpa.
