Sherman, Gloria Leah (Gillard) Venice, FL; formerly of Saginaw, MI Passed away on Saturday, February 13, 2016 in Venice, Florida. She was 88 years old. Gloria Leah Gillard was born on December 10, 1927 in Mt. Morris, Michigan to the late Joseph and Leah Gillard and was raised in Bay City, Michigan. She was the youngest of 10 children. Gloria graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1945. She married Bill (William Edward) Sherman on June 12, 1948. They relocated to Saginaw in 1956 and became faithful members of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. They were married for 58 years until Bill's passing in 2006. Gloria served as a school bus driver in Saginaw Township for many years and was also a spot welder for Autolite during World War II. Gloria loved music, dancing and ice skating. She belonged to the Praise the Lord Club and was deeply committed to her faith and family. She is survived by her children: Alan Sherman, Tom Sherman, Steve Sherman and his wife, Rhonda, Mary Macauley, Dan Sherman, Linda Duncan and her husband, Bill; 12 grandchildren: Eric, Jessica, Aubrey, Carli, Patrick, Rachel, Sean, Brandon, Danielle, Emily, Gabe and Larissa; 3 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Gloria is preceded in death by her husband, Bill Sherman; her son, Ron Sherman; her parents; nine brothers and sisters. The Sherman family extends their thanks and gratitude to Tidewell Hospice House for their exceptional care and kindness. FUNERAL: A funeral liturgy for Gloria will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 19, 2016 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 5376 State Street, Saginaw. Rev. Fr. Alberto E. Vargas will officiate. Rite of committal will follow in St. Andrew Cemetery. VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) on Thursday, February 18, 2016 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Gloria will lie in state at the church on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass. MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider a donation to Tidewell Hospice House, tidewellhospice.org, or to a local hospice organization. Our many thoughts and prayers go out to all of the family. We all have many fond memories of your mom. Especially our trips and the big blue bus! Your mom was a sweet person and will treasure knowing her. My mom would have come today, but is home with the flu and I found out to late to come. May she rest in peace.
