Obituary
Pena, Gilberto Miami, FL, formerly of Saginaw, MI Passed away peacefully on Monday, October 19, 2015 in Miami, Florida. He was 90 years old. Gilberto Pena was born on August 18, 1925 in Humacao, Puerto Rico to the late Herminio and Elisa (Pinero) Pena. Gilberto married Mary Ortiz on October 11, 1947 in Saginaw. She preceded him in death on July 9, 2001. He served with the Merchant Marines, and then moved to Saginaw. Gilberto worked at Malleable Iron Plant for over 25 years. He enjoyed working for his fellow co-workers as a committee man, and was a member of UAW Local #455. Gilbert was a 32nd degree Freemason and Shriner. He loved to play music, and enjoyed playing his guitar with the La Rondalla. After Mary passed, Gilbert resided at the Fair Haven Assisted Living in Miami. At Fair Haven, he was affectionately referred to as the "Mayor of Fair Haven", where he made many friends and enjoyed a competitive game of Dominoes. Gilbert is survived by his children: Linda (Ben) Gonzales, Carmen (Nick) Zitko, Mary (Charles) Migliaccio, Margaret McGarrity, Elizabeth Pena, Alice (Leonardo) Pena Garcia and Gilbert Pena, Jr.; 14 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; brother, Jose (Lucy) Pena; sister, Elizabeth Pena; sisters-in-law: Ana Delia Pena and Ana Rosa Pena, and many extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and brothers: Efrain Pena and Luis Pena. FUNERAL: A funeral liturgy will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 29, 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 910 N. 6th St., Saginaw. Rev. Fr. Francis Voris, OFM Cap will officiate with entombment to follow at Oakwood Mausoleum. VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit with family on Wednesday, October 28, 2015 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State). A vigil service will be held at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Gilberto will lie in state at the church on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral Mass. MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider a donation to St. Joseph Catholic Church. I am sorry to hear about your loss. I always enjoyed gilberto's company. I tried to call the home on the south side however I got no answer as I was told that the # was no longer in service. I sounded strange to here that since that is the only # that I have ever known for that address. Steve Schuette
