Obituary
Our beloved mother and sister passed away on Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at St. Marys of Michigan surrounded by her family. She was 62 years old. Susan Mary Schabel was born on April 8, 1953 in Saginaw to the late Donald and Betty J. (Nowak) Schabel. Susan was a graduate of St. Stephen High School, Class of 1971. She then furthered her education at Spring Arbor College. Susan was the director of the Foster Grandparent Program with the Saginaw County Commission on Aging. She was an avid golfer, enjoyed spending time in her yard, watching the Detroit Tigers, travel and sharing her time with many special friends. Susan was a faithful member of St. Helen Catholic Church. Susan is survived by her children: Carmen Furlo of Saginaw and Ralph Furlo, III of New York; four sisters: Cherie (John) Donnelly Riordan of Treasure Island, FL, Elizabeth (Gerald) Schmidt of Knoxville, TN, Patricia (James) Kelly, and Jennifer Temple, all of Saginaw; nieces and nephews: Karis Hertzberg and Keely (Burt) Wells all of Florida, Scott (Angela) Schmidt and Nicole Schmidt all of Tennessee, Corey (Brian) Stephan, Molly (Robert) Montalbano, and Mitchell Temple Jr. all of Saginaw; great nieces and nephews: Hanna Hertzberg, Riley Wells, Drew and Macey Stephan and Ian Montalbano. FUNERAL: Susan's funeral liturgy will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 2, 2015 at Christ the Good Shepherd Parish-St. Helen Catholic Church site, 2445 N. Charles St. Rev. Fr. Joseph A. Schabel will officiate. Cremation will follow the funeral Mass. VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) on Thursday, October 1, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A Vigil service will be held Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home under the direction of Rev. Fr. Joseph A. Schabel. Susan will lie in state at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass. MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider a donation to the Loan Assistance Program (L.A.P.). Dear Carmen and Ralph, and family. You have my heartfelt sympathies. Your mom loved you dearly and always spoke so proudly of you. Now, she will be watching over you, protecting you and guiding you. I pray that you find strength to get through the days ahead. Your memories will bring you comfort, in time.
