My Grandpa Manuel, my friend, my confidant, my role model, my hero. Grandpa was born June 17th 1926 and came to the United States of America from Mexico when he was a child. The road was not easy one, and the burden was not light. Being an immigrant at the time was not easy in those days. He enlisted in the army during World War Two where he traveled to California for his training and then soon after was shipped off to Japan. In Japan he was a scout who was sent ahead of the troops because of where he was from. He didn't cry about it he just got out there and did his duty. He was shot twice, stabbed with a bayonet. But that didn't stop him; he just got his stitches and was right back on the field. He earned two purple hearts and a bronze star for his bravery. The amazing thing is that he never bragged about it because he was that kind of man. A man of humility, a man of integrity. After the war he came home to Michigan and worked at the GM plant for 40 years moving all the way up to foreman. He walked 8 miles there and back every day. He worked hard in everything he did from keeping up the house, to protecting it. He knew that not all men were morally equal, but he always stood up for what was right. He was not perfect but he did more than his fair share. He prayed his rosary daily and stayed involved in his family's life. Family was always on his mind. He had such a good memory too, he didn't forget his extended family's birthdays and even just weeks ago he remembered his Army ID number. He taught me that no matter what, family comes first, something my family takes very seriously. The Coules kids live within 10 minutes of each other. We constantly stay involved in each other's lives. We thank Grandpa for that life lesson. He also taught me to never quit no matter what, something that has helped me so much in my life. Over this summer I was blessed to spend so much time with him. We got to talk for hours. Our lengthy conversations covered all aspects of life, from politics to sports to religion. We could talk for hours. Those cherished moments will never be forgotten. Thank you Grandpa for being there for us no matter what and teaching us so much from the way you lived your life. "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." Timothy 4:7 "His master said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a little, I will set you over much; enter into the joy of your master." Mathew 25:23 We lost a loved one but we gained a friend in an angle. Now I picture him holding his great grandbaby Jamie Anne in Heaven and greeting all of his family members who had gone before him. We will miss you, we love you, and your memories will never fade from us. We say farewell to a loving son, brother, father, Grandfather, Great grandfather, uncle, Godfather, Husband, and friend. Rest in peace with our Lord, until we meet again. We love you Grandpa. Love your Family.
