Obituary
Gonny (Vanhoof) Meyer was born on April 18, 1922, in Helmont, Netherlands to the late Josef Vanhoof and Adriana (Van Der Heijden) Vanhoof. She passed away peacefully on April 19, 2015. She was 93 years old. She married Leonard Meyer in 1945; he predeceased her in 2009. Gonny, Leonard and their two daughters, Liz and Josie, moved from Amsterdam, Holland to Saginaw, Michigan in 1955. Gonny was a fabulous seamstress and made her daughter's coats and clothes while living in Holland. She was intelligent and wise and a marvelous hostess; she enjoyed entertaining and cooking for others. She loved to share her soups and baked goods. Gonny had many talents and she absolutely loved the water and was a swim instructor and life guard in Holland. She enjoyed swimming and exercising with her friends at a variety of pools in Saginaw. She played tennis and golf and enjoyed being outdoors. She will also be remembered as an avid coupon clipper and in a constant search for a good deal or sale. Gonny leaves behind, two daughters: Liz Griffore (Glen) of Gaylord and Josie Meyer (Don Van Mullekom) from Au Gres; her sister, Yvonne van der Schaaf, Austin Texas; four grandchildren: Pam Grayson, Leesha Allen (Harold), Michelle Seely (Allan Sexton), and Nico Seely (Annie Swanlaw); seven great-grandchildren: Sophia and Benjamin Evans, Alex Griffith, Vanessa Grayson, Colleen and Jared Allen, and Vaughn Seely. Gonny also leaves behind several nieces and nephews. A special thank you goes out to very dear friends: Regina Provenzano and Kevin Hayes. A thank you also to the entire staff at St. Mary's of Standish. SERVICE: A celebration of Gonny's life will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, April 27, 2015 at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State). Rev. Fr. Andy Booms will officiate. Cremation has taken place. VISITATION: Family and friends may visit at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mary's of Michigan Standish Hospital, 805 W. Cedar St., Standish, MI 48658; please include 'Recreational Therapy - Gonny Meyer' on the memo line. Okay, we might have been a trial for her occasionally when we were young (very young). It has been a joy getting to know her as a person in the last few years. It's been so fun getting our mothers together for little lunch outings. I loved our last lunch at her house with my Mom. Wish Josie could have been there, but you needed a well earned break. She was a fun, sharp lady. So sad to have her gone. My heart is with you. Sue Szott
