Jane Poag

Poag, Jane (Bortkewicz) of Saginaw, formerly of Shepherd Passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 8, 2015 at Covenant HealthCare - Cooper. She was 76 years old. Jane Ann Hoffman was born on March 15, 1938 in Shepherd to the late Vincent and Mary (Siebenek) Hoffman. She married Peter Bortkewicz, he passed away in 1979. She then married Paul Poag and he passed away June 22, 1994. Jane loved to care for others, and she was blessed to care for children in her home for many years. She had a deep love for all of her pets; taking in countless lost animals throughout the years. Jane was the loving mother of: Lisa Gregory, Cindy (Wes) Lamont and Jason (Tera) Poag; proud grandmother of: Jennifer, Ryan, Blake and Logan. She is also survived by her brothers: Robert (Dawn) Hoffman, Alex Hoffman and Ron (Pat) Hoffman; sisters: Doris Allen and Teresa (Ed) Recker; sisters-in-law, Mary Jo Hoffman and Punny Hoffman; and her late husband, Paul Poag's family, who were very special to her. She was preceded in death by her son, Michael Bortkewicz; two brothers: John Edward and Thomas Hoffman; and a nephew, Douglas Allen FUNERAL: A funeral liturgy for Jane will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 14, 2015 at St. John Paul II (St. John the Baptist site), 545 Mapleridge, Saginaw 48604. Rev. Fr. William Taylor will officiate. Burial will take place at 2:00 p.m. at Cook Cemetery, Burt, MI VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd., (off State) on Friday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. A Vigil Service will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Friday evening led by Sr. Christine Gretka, CSJ. Jane will lie in state at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral Mass.
