Obituary
Michael Lefkiades of Bay City, Michigan passed away peacefully on Monday, January 12, 2015 at his home. He was 83 years old. Michael Lefkiades was born on February 9, 1931 in Thessaloniki,Greece to the late Thrasymvoulos and Eleni (Arzoglou) Lefkiades. Following high school graduation, Mike came to the United States in 1952 to attend a local university. He married Dorothy Jean Kuligowski on August 16, 1952 at St. Hyacinth Church; she preceded him in death on January 1, 2011. Mike was a successful businessman operating a printing company and also successfully operated multiple restaurants including: Mr. Hot Dog and Michigan Coni Islands throughout the area. He was a member of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Saginaw. Mike enjoyed traveling and was an accomplished poker player. Above all, Mike loved and cherished his family. Papou will be sadly missed by his grandchildren and great-granddaughter, Addy, who were close to his heart. Surviving are two sons: Gary A. Lefkiades and his special partner, Nancy Leeds of Indian River; Thomas Lefkiades and his wife Nancy Johnson of Saginaw; six grandchildren: Gary Alan Lefkiades, Jr., Bradley Michael Lefkiades, Erin Marie (Bill) Birdsall, Megan Marie Lefkiades, Zachary Thomas Lefkiades and his fiancée, Shelby Shepherd, and Allison (Jarrett Taylor) Maturen; and one great granddaughter, Addelyn Elizabeth Maturen. Also surviving in Greece are a niece, Xeni (Panos) Sigala two special cousins: Amalia Sotiropoulou and Grigoris (Christa) Arzoglou and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Jason Lefkiades, his parents, and sister, Eli Regis. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) on Friday, January 16, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Honoring Mike's wishes cremation has taken place. Private entombment will take place at St. Andrew Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the Michigan Heart Association. I've known Mike over the past three decades that I've called Saginaw my home. Mike was a very kind-hearted, well read, intelligent man, always with a smile and a good laugh, always with some knowledge to impart. Mike had an incredible thirst for life. He was always bubbling over with enthusiasm, that love for life that so many, unfortunately, never come to know. I feel honored and blessed to have been a friend of Mike's in life. We will miss him dearly. May his memory be eternal and may God bless him and his family.

My sincere condolences to you and your family. I know from your stories that your dad was a vibrant and intelligent man. The apples don't fall too far from the tree. Sometimes the apples have a difficult year or so due to 'insects' or 'weather'. Still they survive, and come back to share for the purpose God meant them to be, metaphorically speaking.

Each life is touched by others. With some, the touch is warm and loving and lingers forever. That is how Mike touched me. My husband and I met Mike in the poker room at Soaring Eagle where we have had the opportunity to play with him over the years. He was such a intelligent man and always had a smile. Mike will be missed by many.
