Obituary
HERZLER, Mary of Saginaw, Michigan passed away on Sunday, December 14, 2014 at the Wellspring Lutheran Services at the age of 91 years. Mary Eileen Shipman was born on February 7, 1923 in Corunna, MI to the late Seymour and Mabel (Lyons) Shipman. She married Oliver Herzler, Jr. on April 28, 1945 in Chicago, Illinois. He preceded her in death on September 30, 2011. Mary graduated from Central Michigan University with a B.S. Degree. She taught school in Gladwin and Saginaw, teaching at the old Durand School and then second grade at Merrill Park School. She retired from the Saginaw School System in 1984 after teaching for 37 years. She was a member of Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel and Saginaw Association of Retired School Personnel. She was a member of Warren Ave. Presbyterian Church and taught Sunday school for several years. Surviving are her two sons and their spouses: Dr. Gary and Ann Herzler, Belmont, MI, Dr. Greg and Maryann Herzler, Saginaw, MI; three grandchildren: Cory (Jeff) Haeberle, Rockford, MI, Molly (Daniel) Borges, Saginaw, MI, and John Herzler and fiancée, Kelly Kretz, Royal Oak, MI; three great-grandchildren: Oliver, Marley, and Charlie Haeberle, Rockford, MI; and one sister, Lucile Strohmenger, Marshall, MI. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 65 years, Oliver; two sisters: Vivian Walch and Dorothy Kulvin; and one brother, Leighman Shipman. Following Mary's wishes cremation has taken place. A private family Memorial Service is planned. I am sorry to hear of your mother's death. I thank God for her love for her family, her students & her faithful service to Warren Ave. Presbyterian Church for many years. I enjoyed many visits with her & your father. May God comfort you all in your great loss.

Know that you are being held in prayer as you mourn the loss of Mary. I have so many fond memories of Mary (and Grandpa Ollie) from my childhood, visiting their home with Cory. Mary was "always a teacher" and I remember going to their home, especially on snow days - she would often make hot cocoa and have cookies for us... and, I enjoyed visiting with her in her later years at Meadowview when I would be there visiting my mother-in-law. Lots of love to you all!

What a team they were, Ollie and Mary! It's good to know the team is reunited and the good times will continue for eternity. I was proud to know them and that they considered me to be a good friend. God bless the family during this hard time, but in the spirit of Christmas know that Mary and Ollie are witnessing the finest Christmas ever together!!

Gary and Greg, I am sorry for the loss of your Mom. You can be assured that you two made her so proud. What mother wouldn't want to have two sons that were Doctors. You both married such terrific wives who also made her proud,and gave her three grandchildren. I am aure she felt very blessed.
