Ronald Sommer

SOMMER, Ronald "Ron" E. of Saginaw, Michigan passed away on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at Covenant HealthCare - Cooper. He was 80 years of age. Ronald Eugene Sommer was born on June 13, 1934 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late Fredrick and Elsie (Gillman) Sommer. Ronald married Mable Lois Hollenbeck on October 12, 1954 in Saginaw, Michigan. She preceded him in death on June 16, 2012. Ron graduated from high school and then he proudly served in the United States Navy. Later, he would work for a trucking company where he was a dispatcher for 57 years until his retirement. In his spare time, he participated with Neighborhood Watch, gardening, and he never missed a Detroit Tigers game. Surviving are daughter, Patti (Grant) Heitzig; son, Michael (Brooke) Sommer; two granddaughters, Sami and Skye Heitzig; three great-grandchildren: Katelyn and Amelia Sommer and Jaden Weichel; sister, Shirley Bishop; and other family members and friends. Ron was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 57 years, Mable; and two sons, Bradley and Michael Sommer. Per Ron's wishes, cremation has taken place. Private burial of cremated remains will take place at Forest Lawn Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the American Cancer Society, in Mable's memory.
