Obituary
KEANE, Helen Marie (Lash) of Saginaw, MI beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at her home. Age 88 years. Daughter of the late Alexander and Ruth (Buckley) Lash, Helen was born in Saginaw and resided there the majority of her life. She was a faithful member of St. Stephen Catholic Church, The Catholic Women's League, Covenant Healthcare Auxiliary, and a volunteer at Covenant Healthcare - Harrison. Helen is survived by her brother, Lewis (Carole) Lash, Miami, FL; sons: Kevin (Carol) Keane, Flushing, MI and Scott (Margaret) Keane, Grand Rapids, MI; daughter-in-law, Coleen Keane, Traverse City, MI; grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Margaret (William) Hayes; and son, Shawn Keane. Special thanks to her friends, Shirley, Doris, and Joan, without whom she could not have remained independent; her most fervent wish. FUNERAL: Funeral Liturgy will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 25, 2014 at St. Stephen Catholic Church, 1310 Malzahn St. Rev. Fr. Steven Gavit will officiate. Rite of Committal will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) on Sunday August 24, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Helen will lie in state at the church on Monday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of Mass. Helen and my mom, whose name was also Helen were best friends since kindergarten. When I was a young girl I often wondered what came over my mom when my Aunt Helen, as I referred to her, and she got together. My mom being extremely quiet would become so animated and seeing my mom so alive of course made me happy. One thing I couldn't understand was how these two women could talk sooooo fast or how one or the other could ever get a word into the conversation.
Aunt Helen was a kind, Christian person who loved her boys and their families. May she now rest as her time here is done. We will see her again. Love you Aunt Helen.

Helen was a wonderful role model for young women when she worked at the law firm--and, she hired several of my Co-op students from Eisenhower High School at the time. I always looked forward to visiting with her while dropping off students' evaluation forms and admired her to the utmost!! Great smile, friendly, professional in every way, and a joy to chat with! I am sure all of you have always been very proud of her. I am honored to have known her. Sending my sympathy and understanding. Carol Socha
